RAHE FAMILY

John Henry Rahe was born 3 March, 1838 in Germany. One census report said he was from the state of KIENERE NOTO,another said Hanover. A “family story” is that he came to America when he was fourteen years old, and he lived in Indiana before moving to Missouri. In the 1860 census of Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri, John is listed in the home of Columbus Sloan, his future father-in-law. On 1 November, 1860, in Adair County, John married Rebecca Sloan. This record is found in a book of Adair County Marriages, and says JOHN RAY to REBECCA SLOAN. Rebecca was born 22 January 1843, Adair County, the daughter of Columbus J. Sloan and Rebecca Thompson. John and Rebecca made their home in Bullion, near Kirksville, Adair County. This couple is found in the 1870 (page 97) and 1880 census of Adair County, Missouri. Rebecca Sloan Rahe died on 8 April, 1894. John was married on 28 September, 1898, to Rachel Glasgow, and they are found in the 1900 census of Salt River Township, Adair County. In this census report, John claims he came to America in 1849 when he was eleven. John died on 2 September, 1903, and is buried at Bullion Methodist Church Cemetery. John and Rebecca were the parents of ten children.
