I am from Brownwood which is 3 miles from Advance, MO. A small strip of Brownwood is in Bollinger County, though. I was born in 1965 to Shirley Long, daughter of Nora May Shirrell Long and William Otis "Pete" Long. Families in the town were Harrell, Shirrell, White, Pink, Black, Green (story about the colors: I'll try to recall), Looney, Hawkins, Herzog, Robinson, White, Masters, Myers, Pate, Brewer, Caldwell. There is a Brownwood Cemetery nearby. In the 1880s or so, Brownwood was a hopping town, but with the loss of the railroad, the town went down in population. My last visit in 2010, there were less than 80 people. The post office (63738) in on the list to be closed as well.
