I have been researching for a driver killed in an auto race in Indiana on 28 August 1932.
Newspaper reports gave his name as Edward Leeper, of Indianapolis.
Find-aGrave shows an Edward Leeper, but a photo of his headstone (which is brass) shows Everett F. Leeper, PFC - US Army, WW I, 1902-1932.
Additionally, he (Everett) is shown to have entered the US with wife Bridget Leeper on December 1919, from Canada.
An unnamed cousin of Everett (Edward?) claimed that the driver had been despondent before the race. Is it possible that Harriet and E. were separated or divorced? This was at the peak of the Great Depression, and if he was despondent, it may have been about finances.
The driver (Ed or Ev) was reported to be a mechanic.
The newspapers reported him to have an age consistent with a 1902 birth. He may have falsified his age in order to join the army at a legal age. His (Ev) reported his birth year to be 1897 - but his grave marker shows 1902, which is consistent with the age given for the driver who was killed at a track called "Jungle Park", near Rockville, Indiana.
