SALISBURY PRESS-SPECTATOR Salibury, Chariton, Mo., Friday December 14, 1923.

Mrs John B SMITH, 60 years old, of four miles north of town, died suddenly at her home last saturday morning. Death was due to apoplexy. About three weeks previous Mrs SMITH was seriously ill, but had apparently recovered. About five o'clock Saturday morning she called her husband telling him she was ill and to call a doctor. Before the doctor could arrive, she had lapsed into unconsciousness and at 7 o'clock her soul passed to its Maker.

Theresa Mary GIESLER was born in St Genevieve Co., Mo., November 3, 1863. she was among the older settlers in this community. when a child of 5 years, her parents moved to Salisbury and settled on a farm 4 miles north of town. The place where she died was a part of the original farm, so for fifty-five years she had lived on the same tract of land.

On February 12, 1884 she was united in marriage to John B SMITH and to this union ws born eight children. One child died in infancy and Mrs Lena HERBERT, a daughter, died in 1917. The six remaining children, who with the husband are left to mourn their loss are: Wm G SMITH of north of town, Mrs Rose THURSTON, Chanute, Kans; Mrs Lillian TRESSEL, Fort Scott, Kans; John, Albert and Miss Amelia, of the home place. Since the death of her daughter in 1917 , Mrs SMITH has also been a mother to her granddaughter, Helen HERBERT, who will sadly miss her tender care and devotion. She also leaves on brother, V. J. GIESLER of this city.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. J. ERNST, Tuesday morning at 9:30 at St Joseph's Catholic Church, of which she was a life long, dvout and consistent member. She saw the congregation here grow from the time when services were held for a few families in the absence of a church building, in her father's home, to its present magnificent proportions.

The funeral services were largely attended and the many beautiful floral offerings attested the esteem in which she was held.

The writer, as her nephew, knew her intimately in her home life. From our earliest recollections we knew her as a kind and loving aunt. Ever devoted to her home, husband and children, she will be sadly missed by those near and dear to her.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Geo. J SMITH, Cherryvale, Kans; Mr & Mrs Albert Thurston and son Junior, Chanute, Kans; Mr & Mrs Henry Tressel & daughter Martha Jane, Ft Scott, Kans; Mr & Mrs J. w. ASTRY, Kansas City, Mo.,; Mr & Mrs V A GIESLER, and Mr & Mrs S C MILLER of Moberly.

(Geo J SMITH is my Grandfather and John B SMITH's brother)
