You can use this form to find the location of a township. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/default.aspx

I did the search and got this: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/results/default.aspx?searchCri...

And then this which I got by clicking on the link in the line which says Jeremiah Butt bought NE-SE-33-66N-7W in 1837. When I did the search, it came up on the third line of results.

Tick the box marked Map to see a map of the township.

Or use Google maps: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Sweet+Home+Township,+MO&h...

This article explains the survey system that gives rise to your "descriptive phrase." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Township_and_range

So, assuming sections 31-36 will run west to east across the southern edge of the township as described in the article, beginning from the southeast corner of the township, go three miles west, then 1/4 mile north. SW-NE-SE will be about 1/4 mile to the west.

Here's an old map that shows land owned by Nancy Butts along the east side of section 33. According to my understanding of your description, the graves would be in the southwest corner of the plot where her name appears. http://www.historicmapworks.com/Map/US/482165/Township+66+N+...

Hmmmm. I don't see Revere on this map. Is Peakeville an old name for Revere? No, there's still a place named Peaksville, on Highway (or is that County Road?) C about a mile and a half northwest of Revere. It looks to me like Revere was created when the railroad came through, after which Peakeville/Peaksville dwindled.

From what I can see on Google Maps it looks like from the south edge of Revere, you can take C southeast about a mile, then turn right (south). In about half a mile there will be two houses on the right side of the road. If I've figured this right, the graves will be about 1/4 mile south and 1/4 mile west from those two houses, back in the woods.

Disclaimer: I've never been there so can't vouch for where any graves are. I'm just going from what you said and what I see on the web sites I've noted above. Neither Findagrave.com nor Google Maps seems to know about these graves. If I've screwed this up, I hope somebody local will make any needed corrections.

I do see this, which I think is about four miles north and a little east of where you've described. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&GScid=2...;

Suggestions:

1. Call the library ahead of time to verify the location. Give them your email address or offer to call them back a few days later to give them time to ask around. Looks like the nearest is in Kahokia. http://www.bing.com/search?q=revere+missouri+library&pc=...

2. If the temperature is above freezing, use tick repellent before stomping around in the Missouri woods.

3. If you can, figure out which restaurant the local farmers favor, and go there.

4. Don't believe everything I'm saying. I don't think I'm making anything up, but that doesn't mean I haven't made a mistake.

Good luck, and have fun!
