Death record/obit lookup for Smith Garrison (1842-??)

I am trying to locate a record of when Smith (first name James) Garrison, of Clay County, died. He and wife Anna T. Roberts were living in the Gallatin area in the 1864 timeframe. His wife remarried in JAN 1867, so they either divorced or he was dead - although I am leaning towards the latter as his wife's 2nd marriage record identifies her as Mrs. Anna T. Garrison...

Thanks!

I just found this, this week too. I started out researching a freed slave. Now, in researching her owners, I've made some connections to my own family. I am related to the Harris line. Nancy Ann Harris-Estes. There are so many connections, I'm having a really hard time putting it into a form that makes sense. Could you please contact me privately?
Thanks! Patti

Hello,

I'm looking for more information about my great-grandfather, William Mullane, and his sister, Kathrine (Kitty) Mullane. From what I understand, they were the only two in their family to emigrate to the US (though Kitty later returned), and our family has lost touch with those who are still in Ireland.

William Mullane: born April 18, 1890 to William Mullane and Mary Falahee (parents names may be incorrect) in Athea, County Limerick, Ireland; died around the year 1963 in Kansas City, Missouri.

He emigrated to the US in 1913/4, and got married to Kathleen Elizabeth Shine in 1915. He had four children: William Michael, Anna May, Helen, and Kathleen Elizabeth.

Kathrine (Kitty) Mullane was also born in Athea, County Limerick, and emigrated to Kansas City, MI, but I do not know the dates for these events. She married a John Smith in Missouri, but I believe she later immigrated back to Athea, Ireland.

I'd be very grateful if you could help me find any information about either of these two people's family in Ireland :)

Thank you!

Odd such a current obit is so hard to find. He owned Granny's restaurant in Holt, MO. Holt lies in Clay and Clinton Counties. Found his step daughters obit (below). She is buried in Antioch Cemetery in Holt. Could not find a website for them. Might be worth a call to them or perhaps one of the family members listed in this obit. I am in the Holt area on occasion. I will stop by and ask around next time I am in the area.

Chuck

Mary Wolverton (1956 - 2012)

Independence MO

Mary Melody Wolverton, 56, passed away May 15, 2012, in Independence, MO.
Hi Lisa. Sorry I did not respond to you earlier. I had changed my email back then and just now got back to these message boards.

I find St Clair died in Jefferson, KY in Jefferson County, KY on June 5, 1920. He and wife Annie/Anna were living with what must be their adult children:

Name: St Clair Violette
[Stclair Violette]
Age: 79
Birth Year: abt 1841
Birthplace: Missouri
Home in 1920: Allison, Jefferson, Kentucky
Race: White
Gender: Male
Relation to Head of House: Father
Marital Status: Married
Spouse's Name: Annie E Violette
Father's Birthplace: Virginia
Mother's Birthplace: Kentucky
Able to read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes
Neighbors:
Household Members:
Name Age
Ora Violette 49
Josie A Violette 40
Emma Violette 54
Atwood Violette 42
Joseph T Violette 30
St Clair Violette 79
Annie E Violette 75

Looking at the image, it shows Ora as the HOH and the others listed as sisters and the brother. St Clair lists his father was born in Virginia in the few census I found him in. Mother in KY.

Annie E died in 1932 in the same county. Public records show her to be Annie Eliza Bradshaw. Looks like the Bradshaw line has been well researched.

Sorry if you have all the already. Rather send you duplicate info that have you miss something.

Chuck

Martha,

Digging around a little more, I believe these are all John's children. Note the 5 year gap in ages in the 1850 census. I would say the children from age 8 on down belong to this couple. Also, all the children carry the Campbell name. I have seen plenty of examples where a woman with children has remarried and her children from first marriage are listed under the surname they were born with. Also, in the 1870 census I will post below, there is a Margaret Granger, age 95, living in the household. Highly likely this is Melvina's mother. Along those lines, in the 1860 census, Elizabeth Campbell is listed as 75 years old. I looked at the image of the original document and I can see why it was translated this way. It is the same Elizabeth from the 1850 census and she is 15, not 75. It appears she goes by Jane in the 1870 census below.

Name: John Campbell
Age in 1870: 69
Birth Year: abt 1801
Birthplace: North Carolina
Home in 1870: Clay, Lafayette, Missouri
Gender: Male
Post Office: Freedom
Value of real estate:
Household Members:
Name Age
John Campbell 69
Melvina Campbell 56
Andrew Campbell 28
Jane Campbell 25
Thomas Campbell 23
William Campbell 21
Smith Campbell 17
Sarah Campbell 13
Margaret Granger 95

In all records I see, John was born in NC, Melvina in TN and Margaret in NC.

It gets difficult when looking for families prior to 1850, esp with a name as common as John Campbell. Only the Head of Household is listed on census prior to 1850. I looked briefly at the 1840 census index and did not see John listed there.

In the 1880 census, John and 'Vina' are by themselves. Andrew and William, along with their families, are living nearby. What is interesting is John states he was born in NC, as were his parents. Vina born in TN and both parent in NC. Now, Andrew and William's info say their father was born in Alabama, mother in TN. The info is only as good as the person talking to the enumerator. I have seen this before and would not give this info much credence. It just makes sense that those younger children belong to John and Melvina.

As far as the Michael buried next to him, I did not see his son Michael on this census page but I do know he got married in Lafayette. Good chance it's one of his grandsons he is buried next to. Will check further later.

All for now.

Unlike Platte, it does not have much detailed genealogy for families. It's called History of Platte and Clay Counties. I will check to see if I have a Lafayette book later.

Chuck

I am looking for info about the Clay Co. Home / Poorhouse. I have a death cert. for Kneel Vogel (d. Oct. 11, 1947) at the Clay Co. Home in Liberty Twp. Was this like a poor farm ? Is there a cemetery where this was located? On his death cert. it just states Liberty, Mo as the place of burial. I don't find his name listed on any cemetery in Liberty, so I am thinking he might be in an unmarked grave at the poor farm if there was a cemetery there. Would appreciate any info.

Seeking any info on Robert R Davis DOB 1845 Clinton Co. Father was Aberdeen Davis. Aberdeen & Jaly LNU, (parents) Asa (brother) Davis are buried @ Log Church Cemetery Perrin, Clinton Co. MO. Last info that I can find is the 1870 Lanthrop Clinton Co Census listed as R R Davis in Clinton Co. and where he signed as a witness for his sister's Ophelia P Davis-Prunty 2nd marriage to Merrill Benton in Clay Co. MO in 1879. Aberdeen and Asa were shot and hung in the Clinton Co area during Civil War by Union troops. Ophelia migrated to TX but Robert disappears from records.

Yes, this is the Sarah Roberts I am looking for. Her husband David Robrts died about 1849 in Clay County, Missouri. There last son Davis Haskew Roberts was born in 1837 in Illinois when they were on there way to Missouri. Sarah was know as a lay Doctor in her area. She left a salve made from her own recipe. This was handed down through the family to my Grandfather. He had half of it and his sister had the other half. They died without passing it down. Rhodene

The death record for Peter says Buckeye Graveyard and he died at Blue Eagle. The 1877 Clay Co. map has Blue Eagle at T50 R32 S 9 and also Mrs. Sarah Roberts owning 80 acres in S 9. There is a Roberts Cemetery in S 8, but no Peter listed- however it was in poor condition when listed. I can find records through 1917 and starting again in 1930 but there is a 12 year span with nothing showing for Clay County. Does anyone have any insight or information on why they aren't here? I have photos of Pop Gillen and I would like to get these photos to family members. Any help will be appreciated.

Hello, I am wondering if you can help me. I am researching our Sullivan family Line. They lived in the Missouri area from the 1850s through the turn of the century. We are not sure of the eldest parents names but understand that they passed away sometime during the Civil War in the Pest House near Ironton, Missouri. We were also told that this "Pest House" was later referred to as the "Poor Farm". They had several children that were taken in by various family and area people following their parent's death from the Small Pox. Two of the children were William Victor Sullivan (born in Dec 1859) and his brother, John L. Sullivan (born in August 1856). We believe there were two sisters, N.Nancy and Elizabeth (Lizzie). We believe there may have been others but can't be sure. William was reportedly born in Liberty, Iron County, Missouri and in all likliness, so were his siblings. We would love to know more about the family should anyone know. William Victor Sullivan married Etta Caroline Braswell, Lizzie married Nathan Oneal. A small note that a cousin has shared has some information written on it that, "the Sullivans were buried near the "Ivester Farm". We are not sure if there may be a cemetery there somewhere or that they were buried on what is now "private property". We would love to discover the whereabouts of their final resting place. Other families associated are the "Carnahans" Stevenson or Stepherson" "Hubble" "Oneal" and "MCfadden" Should you have any information, please email me at glendalecrazy@aol.com or give me a call at 406-465-5667. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
