Hi,
I'm trying to find out if this marriage is actually my gggm and misspelled. I have looked for years and just found it but am trying figure out if this was a church wedding or a court marriage. If it was a church wedding and he was Catholic was there a Catholic church in that area of Cole, Co. during that time?

Supposedly her family disowned her because she married an Irish Catholic but don't know if they could have married in the church in those days if not both Catholic.

Marriage Date is Jan. 25, 1856
John McLaughlin
Rachel Cranton

(I'm hoping that this is Rachel Scranton even though it is WRITTEN in the marriage books as Cranton). That's why I'd love to find church records to prove or disprove this marriage!

I can not find a Rachel Cranton anywhere before this and my Scranton family with a daughter Rachel Scranton lived in Cole, Co. in 1850.

If anyone has any ideas in researching this record more in churches please write me!
Thanks

Cathie
