Inez Pearl Halbert was born September 10, 1911, at Woodston, Kansas, a daughter of the late Henry and Ann (Lambert) Day. She entered eternal rest Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at the Cox Medical Center, Springfield, Missouri at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 23 days.

On March 19, 1930 at Stockton, Kansas, Inez was united in marriage to Sion B. (Sleepy) Halbert; son of Osco L. and Elizabeth (Sanders) Halbert. One son, Marvin and three daughters, Ervene, Ardell and Betty Ann, were born to this union. They enjoyed over fifty-eight years together before his death, April 2, 1988.

Inez taught public school for one year before becoming a full time mother and homemaker extraordinaire. She was a member of Steelville Presbyterian Church and Martha and Mary OES #364, and was "Homemaker of the Year" of her extension club in 1983. She lived in Steelville for over sixty years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Hazel Chesney, Sylvia Reed and Dora Tustison and one brother, James Day; a son-in-law, Bill Hicks and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Garrett Halbert, Maude Simily, Gladys Hubler and Josephine Muntor.

Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her loving son, Marvin Halbert and wife Mary Jane of Apache Junction, Arizona; three devoted daughters, Ervene Hicks, also of Apache Junction, Arizona; Ardell and husband Ralph Viehman of Garland, Texas and Betty Ann and husband Dale Stevenson of Springfield, Missouri; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and a sister-in-law, Ollie Halbert of Cherryville, Missouri.

Inez Pearl Halbert lay in state 4-8 P.M. with Eastern Star Memorial Services 7 P.M. Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.

Funeral services were held 2 P.M. Sunday, May 7, 2000, at the Steelville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Charles D. Likely officiating. Musical selections were provided by organist Deloris Bell and vocalist Georgia Beth Barksdale.

Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers were Doug Matchell, Jeff Matchell, Mike Hicks, Jordan Hobbs, Mike Halbert and Dale Fornander.

Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
