The rejection on Margaret A. Bennett's application said she filed too late. My Grandmother was her sister, and she signed along with another woman on an Affidavit for Margaret, which should have been accepted, as they had accepted others with this same method. I was told at an early age that my Grandmother was Indian, and my Dad said his father would not let her sign, even though she could have claimed her Headrights. He said he didn't need anything from the Government. Also, several of my Aunts who were her daughters, said she was Indian. They would not have lied and would not have any reason to, as they never filed and don't think they ever would have. If you have a yellow paperback book, Corry, Mo" A Collection of Memories" Dade County, you can read about Peyton Bennett and how he took his family and fled from " The Trail of Tears".
