At our DCGS meeting today, we learned an exciting update on Mt. Zion Cemetery [the oldest cemetery closest to Jamesport]. As you may remember, there was no road to go into the cemetery with the only access being across an Amish man's pasture land [walk about 1/2 mile]. A church once was there, but it is gone. Weeds, trees, brush, you name it, had overtaken the cemetery and many had expressed alarm at its neglect.
We and those who took over the project, contacted our county commissioners, and its taken quite a while to get real progress. BUT.....
I am excited to report that a county road has been built into the cemetery and now they [the Mt. Zion Cemetery Perservation people] are accepting monetary donations and offers of help to do the actual cleaning. They are ready to clean when weather permits!
Surnames in the cemetery include:
ALLEN, ANDREWS, ARBUCKLE, BASHFORD, BERRY BLACK, BOYD, BROOKSHIRE, BROWN, BURGE, CASELMAN, CLARDY, CONRAD, CORBIN, DEAN, DINSMORE, DRUMMOND, DUNCAN, EDWARDS, ELLIS, FAULKNER, GARR, GIBSON, GILLILAN, HANDLEY, HARFIELD, HAZELRIGG, HILL, HINES, HINER, HOOK, IRWIN, JENKINS, JONES, JORDIN KEE, KING, KOLLMER, LANGFORD, LIVINGSTON, LOCKRIDGE, LONEY, MARTIN, MCCLURE, MCCUE, MCNEEL, MILLER, NICKESON, ORR, OXFORD, PARBERRY, PRICE, PRINCE, ANES, SANDLIN, SANDIDGE, SCOTT, SELDOMRIDGE, SHULER, SILER, SMITH, SNEED, STEVENS, TAGUE, TERRY, TOLEN, TRAVIS, WEBB, WILLIAMS, WILSON, AND WYNN.
