Richard D. Shockley died Saturday, 7 January 2006, at St. John's Mercy Hospital in Washington. He was 76.
Born 9 September 1929, in Owensville, he was the son of George R. and Dovie Shockley, nee Kosark.
He was educated at Washington High School and was a 1951 graduate of Central Methodist College in Fayette.
On 31 March 1951, he married Mary Lou Jett at the home of Dewey and Amy Jett in Washington.
He served his country honorably as a member of the United Stares Army from 3 June 1954 to 1 June 1956.
Mr. Shockley was a member of Masonic Lodge #251 for over 50 years and a member of Elks BPOE Lodge 1559.
He was a rubber chemist and enjoyed a long career in the tire and rubber business. During his career, he owned his own business and was employed by several companies in technical, management and marketing roles. Some of the companies he worked for were Goodyear, Mohawk, Long Mile and Edwards-Warren.
Because of his career, he and his wife, Mary Lou, lived in many states, including OH, IA, CA, GA, FL and AL, before he retired to his hometown of Washington.
He was preceded in death by his father, George R. Shockley.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Shockley; his mother, Dovie Shockley, of Washington; one son, Douglas Shockley, and wife, Joan, of South Lake, TX; one daughter, Jennifer Kennedy, and husband, James, of Round Rock, TX; one brother, Larry Shockley, and wife, Beverly, of St. Albans; five grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 10, at Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home of Washington. Burial followed in St. Peter's Cemetery in Washington.
Memorials can be mae to the Masonic Lodge Building Fund, the Alzheimer's Association or Lion's Club of Washington.
Arrangements were in the care of Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home of Washington.
