Esther R. Hornbuckle, 87, Washington, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, in St. Louis.

Mrs. Hornbuckle, daughter of Frank Swoboda and wife Cecilia, nee Kleekamp, was born Oct. 6, 1920, in Washington.

She received her education from St. Francis Borgia Grade School.

On Oct. 26, 1940, she was united in marriage to Edward Hornbuckle at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington.

Mrs. Hornbuckle was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Washington.

She also was a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, a life member of St. John's Mercy Hospital Auxiliary and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Western Catholic Union and St. Bernadette's Sodality.

Mrs. Hornbuckle was employed by International Shoe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 24, 1981; and two sisters, Helen Brinkman and Marie Brinker.
She is survived by one son, Bob Hornbuckle and wife Karen, Washington; one daughter, Jackie Willenbrink and husband Don, Washington; one sister, Viola Swoboda Lakebrink, Washington; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Willenbrink and wife Kristy, St. Louis, Dean Willenbrink and wife Kim, Washington, Rachel Damschroeder and husband Kevin, Marthasville, and Erica Shepherd and husband Matt, Wentzville; seven great-grandchildren, Katie, Jodi and Tony Willenbrink, Morgan Damschroeder and Chris, Corey and Colin Shepherd; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

A funeral Mass was held Monday, Nov. 26, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Washington. The Rev. James Byrnes officiated.

Interment was in St. Francis Borgia Cemetery, Washington.

Memorials to Our Lady of Lourdes Building Fund, Our Lady of Lourdes Grade School or Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund are preferred.

The family was served by Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, Washington.
