Velma Durbin, 88, Union, passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in Creve Coeur.
Velma was born Aug. 3, 1924, in Vichy, the daughter of the late Henry West and wife Clara, nee Hollandsworth.
She received her education in Tea. Velma was united in marriage to Floyd Durbin Jan. 22, 1942. The couple lived in Cuba, Mo., Ellisville, and moved to Linn in 1980.
Velma was employed by Borg- Warner for 20 years, from 1960 to 1980. She moved to Union in 1986 and was a member of Union Baptist Temple.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Durbin; parents; four brothers, Elmer, Virgil and Milford West and Dean Luhring; two sisters, Goldie Rickard and Dorothy Miller; and one great-grandson, Brayden Horan.
Velma is survived by one son, Mike Durbin and wife Theresa, Union; one daughter, Pat Horan and husband Charlie, Linn; six grandchildren, Shawn Horan and wife Shauna, Stacy Barker and husband Kevin, Joe Horan and wife Stephanie, Amy Durbin, Laura Durbin and fiance Dan Gruen and James Durbin; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Tabatha, Leighann, Lynnze amd Caleb Horan, Andrew Peabody and Maggie Barker; one sister, Alice Schneidewind, Wildwood; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Nov. 1, at 10 a.m. at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union, with Pastor Phillip Hudson officiating.
Burial followed in St. Michael's Cemetery, Bland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Union Baptist Temple are preferred.
The family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
