Robert Louis Fink, 84, Union, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, inWashington.
He was born April 17, 1928, in Union, the son of the late Erwin Fink and wife Nora, nee Damschroeder.
Bob received his education in Union, and graduated from Union High School in 1946.
He served his country in the U.S. Army from June 1946 to June 1949, during the three years of the U.S. occupation of Japan.
On June 2, 1951, Bob was united in marriage to Maxine Bartel at Zion United Church of Christ, Union.
He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad from 1950 until his retirement in 1985.
Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 297 and Zion U.C.C., where he was a past board member and choir member.
Bob was the first recipient of a husband/wife kidney transplant at Barnes-Jewish Hospital 28 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine, Union; two sons, Bill Fink and wife Debbie and Mike Fink and wife Phyliss, all of Union; six grandchildren, Jamie Borgmann and husband Matt, Jennifer Vollmer and husband Kevin, Jessica Fink, Jason Fink and Mindy Fink and fiance Austin Saake, all of Union, and Megan Orf and husband MJ, Liberty; seven great-grandchildren, Brett, Breanna and Bella Vollmer, Austen, Aiden and Hannah Borgmann and Elsie Saake; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service was held Friday, Nov. 30, at Zion United Church of Christ, Union, with the Rev. Mike Bone officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Memorials to the Kidney Transplant Department of Barnes-Jewish Hospital are preferred.
The Fink family was served by the Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
