Carl F Brendel, husband of Berniece Voss Brendel, and son of the late Henry J and Emma Weltz Bendel, was Baptized into the Hope of Christ's Resurrection on January 7, 1991, at the age of 70 years.

Mr Brendel was born March 23, 1920, at St Louis. On June 7, 1947, he was married to Berniece Voss at Sullivan and to this marriage ten children were born. He honorably served his country during WWII with the US Army Air Force and attained the rank of Sergeant. Mr Brendel was awarded six bronze stars for combat duty in the European Theater. After the war he returned to the Sullivan area where he was employed for many years as a machinist with the former Nieman Tool and Die Company.

Carl also farmed for many years in the Spring Bluff area near Sullivan. He enjoyed music and was the founder of the Ozark Ramblers Country Music Band. He loved to play bluegrass music, playing for the Senior citizens and in jam sessions.

Mr Brendel was a member of St Anthony's parish of Sullivan, a member of VFW Bledsoe-Bulas Post 6133 of Owensville, a member of Father Paul Sutter Council 4 858 Knights of Columbus of Sullivan, and a Monsignor George H Hildner Fourth Degree Knight.

Surviving are his wife Berniece; four daughters, Bertha Rose and husband Gary, of Stanton, Irene Sieve and husband Dave of Villa Ridge, Helen Pinnell and husband Larry of Cuba, and Pat Kleinigger and husband Joe of Bourbon; six sons, Carl Brendell and wife, Luana of Strain, MO, Jim Brendel and wife Barb, Joe Brendel and wife Janet, and Robert Brendel, all of the Spring Bluff area, David Brendel and Ray Brendel and wife Kim, all of Sullivan; 28 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; two brothers, Henry and Francis Brendel; five sisters, Emma Russo, Loraine Brune, Mary Southard, Dorothy Trueb and Elizabeth Mayer; other relatives and friends. Mr Brendel was preceded in death by three grandchildren and by one brother, Andrew.

Funeral mass was celebrated January 10, 1991 from St Anthony's Catholic Church in Sullivan. interment was in the church cemetery. Visitation for Mr Brendel was at the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan. Knights of Columbus memorial services, along with the parish rosary, were conducted January 9, 1991 from Eaton's under the auspices of Father Paul Sutter Council 4858.
