Austin H (Augie) Bennett, husband of Phylliss Williamson Bennett and son of the late Joel Bennett and Pearl Codling Shutes, passed away at Sullivan, MO, June 27, 1986, at the age of 64 years.
Augie, as he was known by his family and friends, was born December 20, 1921 in Lansing, MI, where he was raised as a young man. He honorably served his country during WWII with the US Army in the European Theater where he earned 5 bronze stars. After the war, he moved to the Sullivan area where he has since lived. On February 13, 1943, he was married to Phylliss Williamson in Lebanon, MO. Mr Bennett was self-employed for many years having owned and operated Augie's Standard Service Station in Sullivan and then for a time was employed at Meramec Mining company. Augie was recently employed by the City of Sullivan with the Water Department until ill health caused his leave of absence. He loved sports, especially baseball of which he helped manage several of the town teams. Augie was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of C.A.P. of Sullivan and the 119th Field Artillery Unity of Lansing, MI.
Surviving along with his wife Phylliss are: one son and wife, Tim and Mary Bennett of Sullivan; one sister, Gerrie Hunington of the state of Florida; one half-sister, Helen Roblee of lansing, MI; two grandchildren, Andrea and Jon Bennett, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted June 29, 1986, from the chapel of the Eaton funeral Home, Sullivan, MO with the Rev.L. H. Owens, officiating. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.
Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
