Mildred Ruth Carter,wife of Tony Carter, passed away on December 7, 1987 at the St John's Mercy Hospital, Creve Coeur, MO, having reached the age of sixty-six years, four months, and nineteen days. She was born at Hendrickson, MO on July 18, 1921, daughter of the late Columbus Leach and Maggie Leach Adams, Nee Bone. On December 25, 1936, she was united in marriage to Tony Carter at Elsinore, MO, and two daughters came to bless this union.
Surviving are her husband Tony, two daughters, Melba Stephenson and husband Virgil of St Clair, and Alma Voss and husband Herbert of Union; two brothers Charles Leach of Arnold, MO and Rev Gene Leach of Shel Knob, MO; three sisters Helen Copeland of Flat River, Pearl Hackworth of Leadwood, and Edna Johnson of Lake Village, AR; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Bob, and Lee Leach; and two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Warren, and Alene Duncan.
The Carters had moved from St Louis to the St Clair area in 1965 and have operated an antique and used furniture store here.
A kind and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, and treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held December 9, 1987 at the Russell Colonial Chapel, Rev Lowell Welder officiating. Interment was in the Crestview Memorial Park, St Clair, MO.
