Velma Josephine Nevills, wife of the late Nickolas Nevills, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 1987 at the Cedarcrest Manor Nursing Home, Washington, Missouri having reached the age of eighty-four years, one month and twenty-one days. She was born on May 28, 1903, daughter of the late Sim Smith and Mary Presley Smith. On February 17, 1921 she was united in marriage to Nickolas Nevills, and ten children came to bless this union.

Surviving are four daughters, Dora Loyd, and husband, Milford, Lucille Welch, and husband Billy, Pauline Thompson, and husband, Don, all of Union, Ida Sohn, and husband, Paul of St. Clair, six sons, Everett Nevills, and wife, Ruth, of Cuba, Charles Nevills, and wife, Gladys, Cecil Nevills, and wife, Evelyn of Union, Carl Nevills of Kansas City, Arthur Nevills, and wife, Norma Jean, of Owensville, and Herbert Nevills, and wife, Barbara of Stony Hill, by one sister, Lou Littrell of Union, fifty-five grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Nevills, by six brothers, Rolla, Oscar, Noah, Henry, Thomas and Arlie Smith, and two sisters, Gertrude Daring and Nancy Sohn.

She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Union, Missouri.

A kind and loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt and a treasured friend, she will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 1987 at the Russell Colonial Chapel in St. Clair, with Reverend Clifton Cooley officiating. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery, Lonedell, Missouri.
