David M. Votaw was born in Washington on Dec. 8, 1952, the son of Mayo and Dorothy (nee Patton) Votaw, and entered into eternal life at the Air Force Academy Hospital, Colorado Springs, on Saturday, June 18 in his 35th year.
Votaw graduated from Pacific High School and attended Southwest Baptist University. He joined the U.S. Air Force on Nov. 6, 1972. He earned a B.S. degree at Regis College, Colorado Springs. He was a member of Pacific Baptist Church since 1962. He was a Master Sergeant (Ret.) and had served in the USA, Thailand, Holland and Germany. His military honors included the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor and three oak leaf clusters.
He was married on May 15, 1982 in the Air Force Academy Chapel to Kelly Rusinko, of Colorado Springs. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Christopher David; a daughter, Brittany Nicole; his parents; parents-in-law; sister, Jean Simmons of Columbia; a brother, Edward Cooper of Robertsville; a sister-in-law; brothers-in-law; niece, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
A memorial service was held at the Air Force Academy on Wednesday, June 22 and funeral services were held at Thiebes Funeral Home in Pacific on Saturday, June 25. Interment followed at Midlawn Memorial Gardens in Union with full military honors. The Rev. Earlwood Towne officiated at the services.
