Laurel L. “Lindy” Vidal, age 65 of Rockford, passed away at her home from Parkinson’s Disease on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, peacefully in the arms of her loving husband and children. She was born on July 14, 1947, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Jack and Wanda (Chiles) Sandberg. Lindy grew up in Sullivan, MO where she married Richard Vidal on October 6, 1973.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Drury College in Springfield, MO. Lindy worked as a teacher and later a juvenile probation officer. She participated in the United Way, was a member of the PTO, and volunteered at Auburn High School. Lindy was blessed with many friends, Anita, Debby, Cindy, Diane, Donna and Vicky. She was immediately liked by all who met and knew her. Lindy will never be forgotten, nor will her courage and grace, as she fought the pain and disabilities with her illness. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Van Matre HealthSouth and Hospice of America especially Lilly, Erica, Julie and Teresa for their kind and compassionate care and friendship during Lindy’s illness. Lindy’s wish was to be at home and she appreciated the hours of loving care given by her husband and her daughter, Ashley.
Survived by her husband of almost 40 years, Richard; her sons, Drew (Elaine) Vidal and Nick Vidal; daughters, Ashley and Whitney; brother, Todd (Sandy) Sandberg; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Vidal, Janet (Gus) Stulreyer, and Marna (Phil) Pier; numerous loving nieces and nephews. Preceded by infant son, Adam; brother, Jack; and brother-in-law, John (Cheryl’s husband) and Steve Vidal.
Celebration of life services were held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 Mulford Rd., with a memorial visitation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been recorded. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of America, 3815 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61114 in Lindy’s name.
