Vergie Iolea Wilson, 88, New Haven, departed this life Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in New Haven.
Vergie, daughter of the late Johnnie Washington Wilson and wife Mary Blondina, nee Newman, was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Eversonville.
Vergie had a variety of interests throughout her life. She loved to crochet, sew and knit, and taught herself many of these skills. Making stuffed animals was one of her favorite hobbies. Many of her hand-made items will be treasured as family heirlooms for years to come. Vergie was a friendly woman who enjoyed the company of people. Although she had no children of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews, and she cherished the time they spent with her.
Vergie is survived by one brother, Vernon Wilson and wife Frances "Frankie," Villa Ridge; one sister, Vesta Johnson, Kirkwood; two nieces, Lola Hinson and husband Neil, St. Clair, and Lois Amburn and husband Floyd, Raymondsville; nephew's wife, Barb Johnson, Pacific; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
Vergie was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Washington and Mary Blondina Wilson; and one nephew, Gary Johnson.
A memorial visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, April 4, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
A memorial service followed, beginning at noon at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Idleman officiating.
Memorials may be given to St. Louis Children's Hospital.
