Dale Sumpter, 88, Columbia, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center, Warrenton.
He was born in Higbee March 12, 1923, to Hubbard Sumpter and wife Cora, nee Bradley. Dale was united in marriage to Dorothy Overstreet June 11, 1947. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before she passed away Jan. 1, 2014.
Dale served his country during World War II and worked as a rural mail carrier for many years. He was a former member of the American Legion and National Rural Letter Carriers Association. Dale loved to travel with his wife and enjoyed his time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons, Brad Sumpter and wife Beverly, Richard Dale Sumpter and wife Marilynn, all of Wright City, and Blake Alan Sumpter and wife Peggy, Tijeras, N.M.; five grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the Alzheimer's Association , in care of Martin Funeral Home, 510 E. Main St., Warrenton, MO 63383.
