Albert G. Cowan, 92, Gray Summit, died Friday, February 15, 2002, at Grandview Healthcare Center, Washington.
He was born July 13, 1909, at Gerald, the son of William F. Cowan and wife Emma, nee Huether.
On February 22, 1934, he was united marriage to Viola H. Weirich.
He was a teacher in the early 1930s at the Progress School, south of Beaufort.
Mr. Cowan worked at the Purina Research Farm's poultry department for almost 31 years.
He was a member of Gray Summit United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Gray Summit Volunteer Fire
Department, past president of the Ransom A. Breuer Association receiving the Freemason of the Year award in 1994,and March of Dimes chairman for Franklin county in 1962.
He was also a member of the Gray Summit Masonic Lodge 173 AF & AM for over 50 years, receiving the Mason of
the Year award in 1988. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite, Eastern Star Gray Summit
Chapter 274 since 1963, serving as worthy patron twice.
Mr. Cowan was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother and sister, Maynard Cowan and Elsie Cowan; two
sisters, Josephine Poeppelmeier and Alean Landwehr; one brother, James Cowan; and one grandson, George Becker.
He is survived by his wife, Viola H. Cowan; two daughters, Darlene Becker and husband Emmett, Labadie, and Rose
Duckett and husband Frank, Rosebud; four sons, William R. Cowan and wife Karen, Union, Clarence Cowan and wife
Janice, Brookline Station, Ronald Cowan and wife Jane, Washington, and Richard Cowan and wife Maunawaun,
Bossier City, La.; one sister, Marie Landwehr, Union; two brothers, Elmer Cowan and wife Marie, Sullivan, and Ralph
Cowan, Perryville; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 18, at United Methodist Church, Gray Summit, with Rev. Dr. Judith May
officiating.
Interment was in Midlawn Cemetery, Union.
Memorials to United Methodist Church, Gray Summit, or Masonic Lodge 173 are preferred.
The Cowan family was served by Oltmann Funeral Home, Union.
