Hezekiah Pope, listed as a soldier in the War With Mexico. War was declared June 4, 1845 and the treaty of peace was signed Feb 2, 1848. Over 100 soldiers from Franklin County served in a long and hard expedition. They were classed as mounted infantry but were essentially cavalrymen and rode about 300 horses to death.
