My grandmother is found in Davenport, IA in the 1925 Iowa State Census along with her step-father, mother, and two step-sisters. My grandmother is listed with her step-father's surname, rather than her own, and the record states that her parents were married in Trenton, Missouri.
Hazel Mae Monroe was born to Charles Leroy Monroe and Ella Mae Maseker/Masker in Kewanee, Henry County, Illinois in 1912. Her parents divorced and her mother remarried to Joseph Adams. That family can be found in Canton, Fulton County, Illinois in 1920, with Hazel listed as Hazel Adams. That marriage also failed and Ella and Hazel moved to Davenport, IA.
Jacob L. Ensign was already living in Davenport along with his wife, also named Hazel, who died in 1920. They were married in Davenport.
With Jacob's marriage to Hazel Essler taking place in Iowa and Ella's first two marriages taking place in Illinois, I can only guess that Jacob Ensign and Ella (Masker/Maseker, Monroe, Adams) were the couple who were married in Trenton, Grundy County, Missouri.
I have not yet confirmed this marriage by obtaining the records because I want to first know why a couple would travel from their home in Davenport to marry in Trenton, Missouri, especially when they had 3 young daughters between them. This marriage would have taken place between 1920 - 1925. Can anyone shed some light on this?
