Our 2013 Reunion is in Person County, NC! We'll dedicate a Monument to our earliest-known NC Rimmers, who also came to Harrison County! RIMMER kin will have "EXPLORING PERSON COUNTY" events that weekend July 26-28. We'll visit old homeplaces, churches, cemeteries, and such, most around Hurdle Mills. Roxboro INNKEEPER has "reunion rates." Inquire. A caterer for Saturday's big lunch at Wheelers will serve Carolina B-B-Q and chicken, lots of vegs.

MEMORIAL UPDATE: We will choose our stonemason and wrap up fundraising soon. A few hundred more will reach our $3500 goal! All moneys mailed to cousin Jane - checks payable "Rimmer Family Reunion."
Jane R. Cadwallader, Treasurer
Rimmer Reunion
2039 Travis Road
Conover, NC 28613-9163

THANKS to dozens of you for remembering our ancestors this way! Our Monument will honor the 23 (including 12 spouses of Rimmers) in our first two certain-known generations. It will be our USA "Rimmer Runestone," detailing roughly 1750s - 1850s. It will have about 175 facts engraved. Dedication on Sat., July 27 at Wheelers Primitive Baptist cemetery. INQUIRE for full details as they develop.

Thanks for the info. I recently learned that the Gordon Hart I was looking for in Mitchell Cemetery was mixed up on a cemetery survey with George and Anna Hatfield in the same cemetery, which led to a lot of confusion. My Gordon Hart is a roadblock, but DNA testing now says that my Harts came from the Carolina's and possible Germany before that.Would you have by any chance seen anything on a Moses Hart from Arkansas / Missouri? My Gordon's son's obituary says he came from Harrison Arkansas, and Moses seems to be the most positive lead I now have. Thanks again!

-Travis

Seek Eliza Wolfe Blessing/Blesing

I recently received an email which indicated that I might find my GGGGGrandmother Eliza Wolfe Blessing/Blesing residing for a time in Harrison Co., Missouri.

She was married to Abraham Blessing/Blesing of West Virginia where their last two daughters were born (Wyethe Co., West Virginia).

Eliza had died by 1839 when Abraham is signing for his daughter Elizabeth to marry in 1839 in Wisconsin. Eliza had never left the South.

Their last daughters, Elizabeth Jane Blessing b. 1822 in Virginia and Ann Eliza Blessing, b. 1826 b. in Wyethe County, Virginia (possibly called "Virginia" at the time) moved from West Virginia to Missouri, then to Grant Co., Wisconsin. Eliza Wolfe Blessing died before the family left the South. Abraham was traveling from the South to Wisconsin where his daughters married and established homes and families. Abraham Blessing then traveled by himself to the snow-born mountains of California.

Daughter Elizabeth married a man who was to become a Wisconsin state legislator, Luther Moulton Basford.
And Ann Eliza married William James Winney b. 1821 who became active in the Temperance movement of Grant Co., Wisconsin and was a Constable in the local area.

I have often wondered if we were related to the Greene Co., OH Blessings but I have no proof of this and no family history line before Abraham and his daughters.
I have no date for Abraham's birth or place of birth.

We have Indian blood and I am suspecting more and more that it originates from the Blessing line. Would love to know more substantial information.

Kathleen
LPurch6636@aol.com

Thomas B Miller = Thomas Benton Plumbley?

Hi!

I am trying to determine if Thomas B Miller and Thomas Benton Plumbley are the same person.

My husband is descended from the Pheraby Jane Kirk/Archibald Miller family that moved to the Harrison County area in the late nineteenth century.

Per Arch’s Civil War pension record, they were married in Jackson County, Tennessee June 4, 1856, and neither had been previously married. The pension file also says they were married June 3, 1857. It lists his living children as John (March 28, 1858,) Kindle H (Aug 24, 1862,) Annie (Aug 31, 1869,) Parylee (March 11, 1872,) Stephen D (Feb 27, 1874,) Dennis C (Dec 21, 1877,) William J (Feb 21 1878,) Carl (Nov 7, 1881.)

Also in the pension file is an affidavit from Arch’s brother Kindle Miller, who states he attended the marriage of Archibald Miller and Pheraby J Kirk the fourth day of June, 1856 and neither had been previously married.

Hannah J Miller Wood, Arch’s sister, also swore in an affidavit that she attended Arch and Pheraby’s marriage June 4, 1856

Another affidavit by Thomas B Plumbley says that Thomas was “personally well acquainted with Archibald”, “that he lived near said Miller in Franklin County, Illinois, and “that affiant moved from Ills. to Missouri with said Miller.”

On the 1860 District 14, Jackson, Tennessee census, the oldest child is Thomas B Miller, age 3. 1870 Township 7 Range 4, Franklin, Illinois Thomas B Miller is 14. 1880 Butler, Harrison, Missouri Thos. B is 23. On the 1900 Benton, Daviess, Missouri census the oldest child still in the household is Dennis. Pheraby has had eleven children, nine are living. Haddie died October 12, 1885 and is buried in the Matkins Cemetery, Harrison County.

1900 Butler, Harrison, Missouri Thomas B Plumley born Jan 1855 in Illinois with his wife Margaret E born Mar 1865and daughter Stella M born Aug 1884. Next door is the Albert A Doty household. Albert’s wife is Perry L, Arch and Pheraby’s daughter.

1910 Pattonsburg Ward 2, Daviess, Missouri Wm Arch and P J have Leon Miller, grandson, living with them. Pheraby has had eleven children, eight living. Haddie and Carl have died. They have been married 53 years.

1910 Pattonsburg Ward 2, Daviess, Missouri Thomas B age 55, born Illinois, with wife Margaret E with Lydia Powers sister-in-law

1920 Miller, Gentry, Missouri Pheraby is widowed living with grandson Leland. 1920 Butler, Harrison, Missouri census has Thomas B 65, born Tennessee with wife Margaret.

1930 Butler, Harrison, Missouri census has Thomas B 75 born Tennessee with Margaret.

Thomas Benton Plumbley death certificate gives dates as Jan 19, 1855 to May 25, 1934. Birthplace is Tennessee, father is Not Known, mother is Farby Kirk. The informant was Mrs. Della Swope, Thomas’ daughter. Margaret Elizabeth Powers Miller and Thomas are buried in the Matkins Cemetery, same as Haddie A Miller

The Missouri State Archives has a birth record for Stella Miller, Butler Township, born August 10, 1884 to Thomas B Miller and Margaret E Powels.

So…I think that Thomas Benton Plumbley was born to Pheraby Jane Kirk before her marriage to Archibald Miller probably near Plumlee Corner, Jackson County, Tennessee. At some point, after the birth of Thomas’ daughter Stella in 1884 and by the 1900 census, he started using the surname Plumbley. Arch Miller’s pension application papers from 1898 did not list a living son named Thomas.

Would appreciate any comments and especially any ideas as to how to prove or disprove my theory.

Thanks!

Carmen B Gardiner
Married Margaret Petry around 1859 in Harrison or Worth County. Both are probably buried in the Petry Cemetery in Worth County.

Isaac born 1831. No further information.

Elizabeth (my gg grandmother) born 1836 died in 1915 in Holt County, Missouri. Married Nehemiah Wesley Vinson 6 Oct 1859 in Harrison County.
Regarding the DOB dates.
If you look closely, it says "ABOUT" or "ESTIMATED".

Each census year has it's own calendar. The calendar is not JAN thru DEC. Look at the very top of a census page and you will see something to the effect that says - "each person living on "A CERTAIN DAY".

The 1930 census year for example began on April 1, 1930.

Each person will age either 9 or 10 yrs from census to census.

Thank you for the information. I had run across that 1900 census also where it lists her as Sarah Roop, however, I know that her name was Susan Francis Roop. I am not sure why it is listed as Sarah. I know that the children listed on that census with Frank are her 3 children that lived and that the marriage date of 1888 is correct. However, the birth dates are wrong for all people by about 2 or 3 years and it states that Frank's parents were born in PA which is also incorrect. Frank's occupation was that of a veterinarian and not a farmer but he could have had a farm and maybe wasn't practicing at that time. It's very confusing.
I cannot find anything about Susan prior to that except one census in Trail Creek, harrison County 1880. Her parents were Isaac Roop and Sarah Oiler/Stoner, siblings were Benjamin, David and Charles. I think that Benjamin may have been her twin. I appreciate your help if you come across anything else. Thanks.

Hi--Have you checked out the Harrison and Mercer Cos. web sites? You can use the search engine on each to locate any mention of the name you are searching for. I remember seeing the name (spelled Rupe) in several of the cemetery surveys. They might give you a clue and also there may be other mentions of the name (and spelling) on other pages of the site.

Also, I suggest you send emails to the mailing lists and/or the query page for each county. To post to the mailing list, one must be subscribed to it. To post to the query page, go to that page and follow directions there. Someone who has information may see your posts there who do not see the board query.

I am loooking for information on SUSAN ROOP who would have lived in Harrison or Mercer County, Missouri between 1889 and 1900. I am not positive but I think she was born around 1871 and am not sure the location, possibly Missouri. She married DAVID FRANK BOYER around 1888 and had four children, one who died in infancy. Her three remaining children were FRED DALLAS (b.1889 in Mt. Moriah, Mo), DALLAS CLIFFORD (b.1893 in Princeton, Mo) and BEATRICE (b.1900 in Princeton, Mo). She had to have died before 1905 when David Frank Boyer remarried. I am having trouble locating any documentation - no marriage record, death record or census information linking her to David Frank (although she is listed as his first wife in his obituary). I did locate a census listing her father as Isaac but am not sure that this is the correct Susan. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I also have family members in Cainsville so I came across this post. I didn't find an obit for her, however, she does have a death certificate on the Missouri SOS site. It states that she comitted suicide by hanging. I have attached it just in case you didn't have it. I also looked her up on findagrave.com and got the following information:

Birth: Jan. 29, 1852
Illinois, USA
Death: Jun. 22, 1928
Cainsville
Harrison County
Missouri, USA

Death Certf 20459; Daughter of William and Elizabeth Gardner Alexander; wife of William Harper

Burial:
Akron Cemetery
Akron
Harrison County
Missouri, USA

I hope this helps in some small way.

POLAND Family: Ohio > Harrison Co

I'm a Knox County, OH, researcher (not related to family or being paid by anyone) with a POLAND family whose track was PA > Knox Co, OH > Harrison Co, MO. While several of the family members apparently lived in Harrison Co over the late 19th Century, I believe that at least two of them married and/or died there. Edwin G POLAND (b Mar 1840, Knox Co, OH) married a Jemima between 1870-1880 and had at least 3 children (2 of whom were deceased before 1900). I would like to know Jemima's maiden name (b Jun 1847, OH) and a marriage date. I would also like to have death dates and burial locations for both or either of them. (I have Edwin's parents and paternal grandparents).

Edwin's younger brother (Or twin brother - they are the same age in some census and 2 years apart in others) William (b 1840 or 1842, OH) was also in Harrison Co in both 1870 and 1900. I don't believe he ever married.

Thanks in advance for any information! Please also include your source for the info.

According to Harrison County, Missouri Marriage Records Book A, 1845-1881, published in 1983, Joseph Fair married Viola Williams on 23 Nov 1871 in Harrison Co., Missouri.

The marriage is recorded in Book A, which is essentially an index and won't tell you much more info than this, other than perhaps the name of the Minister. It is also recorded on p. 222 of Book B, which may (or may not) give you more information.

You'll need to write to the courthouse in Bethany for copies.

Thank you, NF Beeson.

You are an angel! This helps fill in some pieces as I had hit a brick wall.

If you find anything else, I would appreciate it if you would pass it on. Theodore & J Ella Williams were my great-great grandparents.

Kerry

Report of arrest--Jean and Oscar Heine

In late December of 1972, Oscar Robert Heine and his wife Jean were arrested after trying to walk out on a restaurant bill. They had the 8-year old daughter with them at the time. Oscar was my father, Jean was my stepmother, and the little girl was my half-sister.

I believe they were eventually sent back to Iowa to face further charges, and then Jean was sent on to Minnesota to face still more charges.

I would like to access copies of news, arrest, or court reports on this matter. I know that it happened between Christmas and New Year's Eve. The person who drove down there to get the little girl said it happened in 1972.

I would appreciate confirmation of the marriage date/place for this couple. Info found online states they were married at Bethany on either 14 Dec 1877 or 24 Dec 1879.

I am unable to find the couple in 1880.

Also, Mary's obit states she had 6 children with three dying in infancy. I cannot find info for any of these six children. Are there birth/death/burial records for any of the children in Harrison county?

Kimble,
I have been really busy at school and had not seen this! The picture of Jehu's stone were taken in Fairview Cemetary in Vinita, Oklahoma! All of my Friend decendants are burried there! My mom passed away in August and is buried next to her daddy, William Freeman Friend!
The lady in the picture was Catherine Friend, Jehu's first wife and mother to William my grandfather! The note is from Olive's future husband, Walter. I have been to their graves in Martinsville. They had a daughter named Clara...I am trying to make contact with some of her Hulett decendants in Bartlesville, Ok.
I have lots of pictures of grave stones to post. I will have more time this summer when school is out. Thank you so much for sharing with me! This is my passion! My husband and I are working on many different trees and it has become our passion. Our 4 year old grandson loves to go with us to find our family grave sites. I want to pass down to both my grandson's as much history as I can. Visiting the places where our family lived is one of my greatest experiences! I will nnever forget the first time I saw Freeman and Rebeca's graves for the first time! I have been back to the Bethany area twice with my uncle and two of my cousins!
My e-mail is cyocum1693@aol.com and my land line is 972-315-7386. My cell is 214-356-4257. I will try bto call you tomorrow night, Monday.
I am so glad to have found you!
