I am researching a Charlotte Johnson who married Abraham Keel in Madison Co. MO.in 1843. They were in Howell Co. MO. in 1860 and their daughter, Clarissa was living with Eli Johnson and family in 1870. I believe that Charlotte, Eli and Harlan Johnson were siblings and possibly the children of James Johnson who lived in Madison Co. MO. in 1850.
Noreen Shelton
H.shelton@comcast.net

Does anyone have any supporting evidence as to whom her parents are and possible any syblings to Firman and or Ethel that are validated?

Hello,

I do have some information on George Douglas Tharp and his two wives and their children. I have death certificates and obituaries for George and some of his children including Estella May, and William Joseph.

His death certificate gave the name of his father Joseph Tharp but not his mother. Her name was Elizabeth Capp and she was the second wife of Joseph Tharp. His first wife was Delilah Wilkey who had died in Jefferson Co., IL before Aug 1854 when he and Elizabeth married.

There were eight children born during his first marriage: John D., Mary Jane, Elizabeth, William H., Melvina, Stephen G.H., Joseph N., and Brunetta.

He and Elizabeth had three children: Elnora, George Douglas, and Charles Howard. I believe Elnora died as a child. Joseph died before 19 Jan 1875 when his will was presented for probate in Jefferson Co., IL.

Elizabeth Capp Tharp was my great-grandfather's sister. I have quite a lot of information on the Capp(s) line going back before the Revolutionary War. I really haven't done any research on the Tharp line other than the children.

If you would like to e-mail me directly, you may do so at linkenclark@charter.net.

Linda Clark

We just happened to be going to Peace Valley today and asked about the school. From Highway 60 go south on Highway 17 to Route W which only goes East. The post office is a small gray building on the south side of W. Turn south (right) onto the first road just east of the post office and the school is a short way off W. If all else fails ask at the native stone general store/gas station on the north side of W.

"The natives are friendly!"

The 1870 census lists James K P Smith & Mary J (Taylor) Smith in Willow springs, Howell county MO with 7 children. Mary apparently died after the birth of Trissa (aged 2 mo. in census) and James married Sarah M Gill in 1873. They are listed in the 1880 census with his two children from his marriage to Mary and three younger children with his wife Sarah. Hope this helps. James & Sarah are buried in Gill Cemetery in Mountain View. I don't know where Mary is buried.

Hello, yes I have heard stories from my Grandmother similar to what you are saying and that he had to do with the English Whites forcing Native Americans leave their homeland and walk the Trail of Tears alot of my family is buried in Missouri Please research Trail of Tears and the forced removal of Indians . Grandma told us that were are tri-racial isolates and a few years ago I had my dna done I would like to help you research. I believe the stories that folks told as they were passing down our heritage with spoken stories also and did not write anything down:) there are alot of native ancestors who may not show up on census or dawes final rolls so be sure and check the gov. archives for their 1880 Census of Native Americans and the application, these sites are listed on the same site with Dawes final rolls.

Laura: you may already have the information you are seeking; however thirty-seven people were killed in the April 14, 1928 dance exposion, 20 individuals were unidentifiable and their graves are marked by one common monument in Oak Lawn Cemetery in West Plains, Missouri. The photos of this tragic event can be found in the book by local author, Toney Aid entitled, Images of America: WEST PLAINS 1880-1930. Arcadia Publishing copyright 2003. $19.99 www.arcadiapublishing.com The newspaper that is photographed
the event was the West Plains Daily Quill, Saturday evening, April 14, 1928. No. 72. Hope this helps. If there is a family surname you are looking for it may be listed-let me know & I will see if it is in my copy or records. Best Wishes- Rena' Forester Davis "wildlilly".

They refer to themselves as her schoolmates. The book was from the 1880's. I am trying to find out if she and her parents W. D. and R. A Cheshire lived in this area in the 1880's and if there was a high school that she could have attended.

I want to thank you very much for this information. But it doesn't help much with the death record 04/10/1933 for Julia Marie (Seward) Fick B. 03/13/1888 Elgin, Kane, Il. Her father was Ephraim Seward birthplace Kankakee, Il and the mother was Delia O'Malley birthplace Chicago, Il. What else could of happened back then? This seems to be as close as it can get. Delia had a sister Julia but no daughter Julia that we know of. What do you think?

I am so pleased to read your post. I included the story of Ruby Hodkinson in my book The West Plains Dancehall Explosion (The History Press, 2010 and 2012). I called her husband the 40th death from the explosion. What a tragic story. I wrote that Ruby's son was sent to live with his grandfather because that was the information I found in local newspapers. I would so like to hear more from you about Ruby's family and the impact on them by her death. If you would like to have a copy of my book, it's available on line from all booksellers or I can send you a signed copy. Contact me at linwaterhouse@hotmail.com and check out my website at www.linwaterhouse.org.

My Great grandmother was Ruby Hodkinson. This was a horrible never talked about tradegy in my family because my great grandfathe killed his self shortly after her death. My gandfather was a small boy and he went to live with and was raised by Ruby's sister and her husband with his cousin's who later became the Baldknobbers.

Looking for Delia O'Malleys family in Trask, mo.

Can anyone help me find the O'Malleys in Trask? She married Eprum Seward 1886? Elgin,Il. area. They had a daughter Julia Marie Seward Mar 13,1888 Elgin, Il. according to Julia's death record. Not sure who Delia's parents are?
Delia's birthplace is listed Chicago, Il. on the death record. I don't have death record for Deliah Seward but I believe it must be Howell County, Trask or Hutton Valley.
Her grandson Gregory Fick says when he was small his parents used to go Trask, Mo. to visit the O'Malleys.
Julia married John Fick 1906 Cook County, Il. They lived in Park Ridge, Cook County, Il. 1930 Census. Julia died 1933 in Evanston, Cook County, Il. I would be very greatful if anyone can give some info on her and the O'Malleys.
