Classification: Query
Surnames: PAYNE; WHITE; ODELL; GODWIN; HOWE; BERRY; SHEARRER
John Hamilton Payne, [1867-1902], Wayne Co, MO and his wife, Martha C. White, [b. 1872, Bounds, MO- d. 1956, Frederickstown, MO], had six children, and raised four of them to adulthood.
1) Isaac Wilson Payne, [b. 1892, Wayne, MO – d. 1981, Yucca Valley, CA] Isaac m. Florence Godwin, in 1917.
2) Josiah Edwin Payne, [b. 1892, (twin to Ike) d. 1911, at age 18, in Wayne Co, MO].
4) John Finley Payne, [b. 1896, Coldwater, MO - d. 1977, Storm Lake, IA] m. Sylvia Miriam Howe, in 1919.
6) Neva Myrtle Payne, b. 1900; d. 1967, Frederickstown, MO and she m. Arthur L. Berry in 1918.
Their father, John Hamilton Payne was a brother to Rhoda E. (Payne) Shearrer, my great-grandmother, b. 1861, Wayne, MO and d. 1940 in Wagoner, OK. She m. Eli Shearrer, c1882. Both John H. & Rhoda were children of Josiah Payne,(#3)and Mary Jane ODell.
A male descendant on this line with the surname of Payne is needed for DNA testing, a simple procedure, that will be of no expense to the descendant. Then our Payne Line can be either documented back to Thomas Payne Sr, b. c1655 in Lancaster, Essex Co, VA, or eliminated from this established descent of Paynes, and we’ll keep looking.
