In Sept. 1964 I was present at the 100 anniversary of the battle. My grandmother's family was from the Arcadia/Ironton area. Grandma stated that her mother was a baby in her mother's arms when battle raged, and family hid out in a near by cave. Her mother was Alcey Norris (Robinson-married Charles Robinson from England). Alcey was born 3/5/1864 in Portsmouth, Ohio and I believe her father John Pleasant Norris had something to do with the Iron Mountain Railroad.
According to my mother she heard her grandmother tell the same story while growing up in Arcadia. She stated that her grandmother mentioned that cave was located across the highway from the Ironton train station.
Anyone else heard of this cave?
