I need some kind of clue to help find James D Campbell of Virginia. Each visit to the Indian Creek Cemetery in Calhoun County Illinois, I kick his son's stone and ask him to send me a hint. So far, no help.
My first record of James D is his marriage, 29 August 1843 in Jasper County Missouri to Polly Jane Gresham. She was only 15 years old. Her parents were Joseph Abner Gresham and Martha "Patsy" Blakely. Joseph
was from Halifax County Virginia and Martha was born in Trigg County Kentucky where they lived many years, most of their children were born there. At the time of the wedding Polly's parents lived on the West
line of section 16, township 29, range 32 in Jasper County. It seems James D would be living close by. Did he travel from Trigg with them?
Each family had a child somewhere in Missouri then in 1846 both families traveled, by oxen, to Calhoun County Illinois where James purchased land in February of 1847. James D died, 30 November 1862. His last child was born the following month.
In the 1850 Calhoun census he is 34 and from Va. In the 1860 he is 40 and from Va. In some later census his children say he was from Ky.
A middle name for James D would help, the names of any other Campbells in Jasper County between 1840 and 1845 would help, a birth record of their first child Richard D would be great.
Any hints or clues will be appreciated as I have been looking for James D's background for over 7 years.
Best to each of you,
