Elizabeth Anne Auld was born 23 August 1850 in Cambridge, Ohio. Married 20 October 1868 in Holden, Missouri Francis Marion "Bud" Ferguson (1844-1925).
They lived on farms in Johnson County, Missouri near Holden for many years where all of their children were born. Later they moved to a farm near Anthony, Kansas. About 1906 they followed their eldest son, Porter, to the Imperial Valley in the extreme southern part of California. They were the first pioneer family to settle east of the Alamo River. They had faith in the land and when others were selling, fearing inundation from the Colorado River they continued to purchase land and never sold any of it. The family owned large ranches and were active in the development of this desert into a rich valley through irrigation from the Colorado River. Their home in their later years together was a small farm just outside Holtville, Calif., now known as the "Carrot Capitol of the World".
Following the deaths of her husband and her youngest daughter, Elizabeth Ferguson moved to Los Angeles to help in the rearing of her 3 young granddaughters. The father of the girls remarried in 1926 so she moved to Whittier, Calif. where she bought a home for herself and her widowed sister, Margaret McElvain.
Elizabeth was a homebody but she did make one trip with Margaret back to Missouri to visit their brothers and other relatives. She was a very religious woman with a strong sense of values by which she lived and which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She had several strokes in her last years but being a strong willed person she worked on her paralyzed arm, hand and leg until she recovered some of their usefulness. Her granddaughters described her as a sweet, gentle little woman, not 5 feet tall.
She died 14 July 1939 and is buried in Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Whittier, California.

In 1904 they moved with their 4 children to the Imperial Valley in southern California. Porter was the first President of the Imperial Irrigation Water District, which was formed in 1905. He also served as supervisor of Imperial County when it became a new county in 1907. (Issue: Laurel M. Ferguson born 1 February 1896, married Grace Williams, no children; Eldred H.
