Or at least those are the husbands we know about to date! This is really a mysterious old gal, and we'd certainly like to finally put her to rest. Her l942 obit says she was born l Apr l852 in Livingston Co. We have her parents as Samuel and Nancy Ann Smith Barrett, both b. TN. They, like Nancy, are buried in the Evergree Cem outside DeWitt in Carroll Co, MO.
The family tradition has always been that Nancy's husband was a Henry Gibson, and that they had at least 3 c: Mary, b. l874, who m. Hiram T. Lewis; Emma Iowa (my wife's gr.grandmother) b. l876 who married Hampton Thornhill; and William, b. l878, who m.______ and had a son, Roy. The Lewises and Wm. are also buried in Evergreen while the Thornhill's are buried at Mt. Pleasant cem. in Howard Co, MO.
The Gibson....who we wonder could have been either Henry or William Henry given the son's name....must have died between Wm's birth in l878 and Jul. l880, when the Carroll Co Recorder has found that a Nancy Gibson m. a James Kelly. The next info we have is the l900 DeWitt, Carroll Co census where Nancy is the widow Singleton living with son Wm. So we're looking for census info for Livingston and Carroll Co's, at least, for the years l860, l870, l880, and l890 for mention of a Nancy Barrett, Gibson, Kelly, or Singleton (we don't know the first name of the Singleton.) Help from anyone in these counties or working on these surnames will certainly be appreciated.
