My Father-in-Law who is 80 yrs old had been told when he was a young boy that his great-great Grandfather owned the Johnson Shut-Ins land at one time (Nobel Johnson was his name,Noble Johnson, born Sept. 7, 1796 in NC. ; died 1873. )and that is how it got it's name.
My husband and I went to the Shut-ins today to find more info and found that the original family most spoken about is the JohnsTon family.... not Johnson. However the thing that really baffles us is.... how did it become "Johnson Shut-Ins" and not "Johnston Shut-Ins"?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
