I had seen where Peter R McFry had been killed at the battle of Chickasaw Bluffs near Vickburg. My wife's grgrgrgreat grandfather was General John C. Moore and he led the 2nd Texas Infantry there at Vicksburg. His outfit fought at the battle of Vicksburg and around Chickasaw Bluffs. I told her that some of her kinfolks had fought and killed some of our kinfolks there at Chickasaw Bluffs! He later went on to fight at the Battle of Chattanooga. My great grandfather, Walter McFry, was in the 5th Alabama Battalion, fighting in General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. He joined up after Gettysburg, and was at the surrender at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9,1865. After he got his parole papers, he and his unit WALKED back to Piedmont, Alabama! I have two accounts that were written by officers of the trip back and all that they went through. It's amazing!
