JD Jackson was indeed married to Maxine Depew on December 2, 1939, in Arkansas. They had at least one child from this union. I haven't found an exact divorce date, but it would have been before 1947. Marriage records show that Maxine wed John Tant on January 1, 1947 & JDs death certificate states a marriage to an Irene at the time of his death in 1950. The death certificate can be linked from my tree as well as a picture of his headstone & information on his burial. JD is my great-grandfather. If there is anyone out there who could share a story of him, Id be appreciative.

How do you research prior to 1883?

So I just discovered the courthouse in Pemiscot Co burned in 1883. Between that and no 1900 census, I'm having a heck of a time trying to trace my family.

My question for you is... what do you use to find family prior to 1885? My gg-gf was born in Steele MO in 1885, and I believe living with an aunt and uncle by 1900. I've gotten his ss5, and it does have names for his parents, who I can find zero records for. Since there *ARE* no records before the courthouse burned, how do I search for these people? They weren't the kind of family to make it into the biography or history books... although, that doesn't stop me from looking.

I know nothing about them, except a possible name. And not sure how to find them... if there is even a way....

I should add by 1902, Jess is married to Louvenia Lipscomb, and by 1907 they have moved to Arkansas. I can't find any trace of Jess in Missouri at all, with the possible exception of the 1900 census, if that is him. It's times like this that I truly miss the 1890 census!

June 14,1900, Thomas and Martha were in Crockett Co. TN. On April 16,1910, Thomas was widowed and living in Steele with his daughter Mary Ann and her second husband James Ballentine. Thomas married second wife, Adenia Medlin, on October 17, 1910 in Crockett Co. So Martha died between June 14, 1900 and April 16, 1910. I suspected she died in Crockett Co. and Thomas moved to Steele after her death. I will search for her in TN.

Charlotte, I have a trouble family from Steele, Missouri.

I'm looking for parents of Jess Herbert Warren. He was born in Jan 1885. According to the SS5, his parents are Jim (James?) and ? (maybe Leah) Oneal. I find a Jesse Warren in 1900 living with an aunt and uncle (surname Cravens), but I don't know for sure if it's my Jess or not.

I'd love any help you can find.

That is so very kind of you!!! If you are still doing look ups, I'm searching for the death of Martha Lipscomb, maiden name Sloan. She married Thomas Easton Lipscomb. She may have died in Cooter between 1900-1910. I know this may not be possible to find, but thought I'd ask. :) They had several children who settled in the Cooter area for many years.

Thomas moved from Crockett Co, TN to MO, then back again once he married. He died in Gadsden TN. His death certificate says he's the son of "Cola Lipscomb" of which I can find *NO* records of.

I can't find Thomas' parents at all. Or I've found them and I just don't know it. I've researched the lineage of several Lipscomb families around this area, and none are working out to be my line..

Can't find Tn Vital Records -
The Vital Statistics Law, established by Chapter 30, Public Acts of 1913, was passed and became effective January 1, 1914, for statewide registration of birth & death registration.
The Tennessee Office of Vital Records retains birth records from 1914. (NOTE: Beginning in 2014, birth records will begin transferring to the Tennessee State Library & Archive since we retain the birth records for 100 years. Then they will transfer on a year by year schedule.) Death records are only retained by our office for 50 years. Once the death records become 50 years old they are transferred to the Library & Archive also.
I'm sorry. It was the 1910 census in which Thomas (or T.E. as he's often known) is living with his daughter Mary Balentine. Henry Lipscomb and his family are living right next door.

Lipscombs of Cooter and Steel Missouri

I'm looking for information on a Thomas E Lipscomb born about 1845 in TN, married to Martha. They had 6 children. Mary Ann, Frclia F (sp??), G R, Albert S, Martha Donie, and Lavenia. This family lived in Crockett TN until about 1900-1910 when they moved to Cooter, Pemiscot, Missouri.

Next to Thomas in Missouri, was a man named Henry Lipscomb. They were next door neighbors, listed immediately next to each other. Henry's wife was Mary Teague. They had 6 children also. Barley, William Floyd, Charles, Thomas Barney, Jesse, and Walter H. Although I haven't found the connection, I'm sure that Thomas and Henry are related in some way.

Does anyone have any information on Lipscombs in the TN or MO area?? Thomas's dad was born in Virginia... but I don't have his name yet.

Does anyone know the name or history of a very old cemetery that is located NE of Hayti Mo.behind the Mississippi River levee?Co.HWY 337 intersects with the road that crosses the levee and travels several miles toward the river. There are several twists and turns to get there.I grew up in the area and remember it from my childhood but never knew it's name. Also, does anyone remember houses on stilts behind the levee?I remember horrible stories of the floods back there.Hope someone can reminisce with me.Thanks!
