Thanks for that information. One of the family stories is of my Gr Grandfather and his older brother selling water to the homesteaders that came into Oklahoma. For a time after the death of his Mother, the boys lived with their Aunt Mary Dysart, who was married to Henry Pleasant Ward, of Choctaw descent. With a name like Smith, I have little hope of connecting with this branch of our tree. Clearly Mary (M J) was a true pioneer woman who died in obscurity. Apparently, my Gr Grandfather was not told about her until his teens (his Dad has remarried).
Interestingly, I believe that I tracked her Father John W Smith (born 1835 GA or TN) back to Arkansas, where he died in 1914 in Prairie Co. His death certificate reads "don't no" (sic) in just about every box. Tell me how a wife of 45-50 years could not know the names of his parents, place of his birth, date of birth, etc.?? Strange...
Many blessings and thanks for your help,
Patti
