Thank you, yes he could have died. I can not find George Johnson there are quite a few george Johnsons back then.
The census says he was born in Iowa I have tired to fine him as a child, and even when he was married but so far have not found him. My aunt told me years ago when I first started looking, that she had heard they wee on a wagon train coming to Texas and everyone died. She was my Dad's older sister. In the 1900 census it just shows 2 sets of twins but there were 3. My Grandfather was Jesse James Johnson.
THank you!

Thank you for the reply. Is this a part of your family as well?

This piece of my family puzzle is interesting as an elderly aunt left some paper scraps with some family data on it. I am taking the names and trying to put togther the family associations which is made more difficult as family members took in nieces or grandchildren that are appearing in census but with different family members than written. I love having this paper scrap to at least have some names to work with. Next to Albert was written fire due to tryst which made no sense until I came to Flora's death certificate that indicated extensive burns.

I love these little notes of genealogy left on small scraps and backs of envelopes. Seems that was kind of a family trait on both sides of my family. I'm sure they are laughing at me now as I get out the secret decoder ring to decipher the clues.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time and providing the sources of the information you provided. I am still fairly new to this but have learned well to use others information with a grain of salt and a place to start, but many suprises await when you get in to the documents. By the way New St. Marcus Cemetery was once called Wilbur Park and it is in South St. Louis Missouri. I was suprised to learn that families would go to the cemeteries and use them like a park with picnic lunches and places to take a stroll. Interesting I thought.

Thanks again,

Kristie

I am searching for information regarding Flora Olga (Hollander) Siems who was married to Albert Charles Siems.

On Flora's death certificate it is revealed that she spent 131 days in the Pike County Hospital. Cause of death was Cerebro vascular accident x 3 weeks with the secondary cause of severe burns 4 1/2 months. The physician attending said that he had attended her from 11/7/1954 until her death 3/18/1955. I am wondering if the incident causing the burns may have been written about in newspapers in the area during that time or suggestions as to finding out what happened to her.

Also searching for any connection to this name Siems in the Louisiana or Prairieville Missouri area. She and Albert were both buried in St. Louis Missouri.

Love the picture! I'm pretty darned sure it's him for two reasons: 1st, it's almost exactly how I imagined him to look, and 2nd, the source (Danner family tree) is one I'm familiar with. Mary Frances Taliaferro Danner (Aunt Frankie, they called her) was the one who started corresponding with the Texas Taliaferros way back in the dark ages. She thought she was corresponding with distant cousins who shared a connection with McCarty Taliaferro. When the Texas folks sent her a picture of their grandpa McCarty and she saw it was identical to the one of HER grandpa McCarty she was, reportedly, scandalized and terminated the correspondence immediately. The family story from this end is that McCarty just disappeared and was never heard from again, but once I got my hands on the divorce records I could see that wasn't the least bit true. As for cause of divorce, McCarty said, "I don't want to be married to my wife any more." Period. Make what you will of that kind of statement. Guess I need to put up my own Taliaferro tree and share docs etc. Thanks for sharing yours and also for the picture of McCarty.

There was an actual divorce and I have a copy of the decree which answered many questions for me. He left for Texas in February 1858 and the divorce was final in 1860. Elizabeth married William Wilks, a fellow about whom I know little.

Taliaferros were from VA and there were gobs of them. McCarty's dad was Francis Conway Taliaferro and his dad was Col. Lawrence Taliaferro "of Rose Hill." Beyond that there were many more but I don't have them all memorized. Would love to see the picture you speak of. I have one of McCarty's son Reuben but nothing further back than that. This is an exciting family, full of drama! My favorites, by far.

Thanks. Taliaferro had been a mysterious figure on my family tree. He had married into my Guerrant family, Could never find where he came from -- seemed to show up out of nowhere and married into my Guerrant family. Ancestry.com kept giving me the 1850 Pike county census hint but didn't know if it was right. Someone has posted a photo but not sure if it is really him. Was there an actual divorce or did he just leave his family in CA?
Sorry, no contact with living descendants.

My guy married Amanda McGary. I recently learned that he had married Malinda Guerrant soon after he arrived in Texas. They had a daughter Georgia Taliaferro who may have died around 1880??? She was supposedly born in 1864. Malinda died around the time that Georgia was born and in 1865 McCarty Taliaferro married for a 3rd time to Amanda McGary. They had a son John who still has descendants living in the Houston area, I believe. Would love to correspond with any of them. If you'd like we can correspond via email. Mine is pebfarms@gmail.com if you are interested. Thanks.

If you have not done so you may want to spend some time at the Missouri State Archives in Jefferson City and the Missouri State Historical Society in St. Louis. I've looked at many of the original census records page by page and you really begin to get a sense of who was there when and who the neighbors were over time. The paths of all of these people would have crossed. I've seen the Pryor and Mason names. I'll pay more attention to them now. I am not 100% sure when nor how my ancestors arrived in Missouri nor where they were from specifically. I have gone to believing a young John Angle looking for adventure after to the Rev. war headed west and ended up in Ste. Genevieve and numerous other forts and settlements in the early years, but there is evidence he was probably married and returned home to somewhere in Pennsylvania and then slowly migrated southwest. If he was with his family he probably was with several families as well. Who they were is of great interest, but I may never know.

Very helpful. yes, I have been in MO many times - I now live in the St. Louis area and in doing my father's Mason research, they lived all over MO which makes it difficult to track them down. I lost our only living 96 yr old second cousin last Thanksgiving and she told me I also have relatives in St. Charles and Florisant, but, I'm sure they've passed on. Many settled in NE MO and the Quincy, IL areas. My ancestors migrated in the early 1800's to IL/MO. I just find it fascinating as to why folks would leave where they did when I find those places to be beautiful too. If you run across the last name Lay? from Florisant, that is one and Pryor and Mason's near Louisiana, MO let me know. Appreciate your reply.

My family came west to Missouri by the late 1700's. I've been reading a lot of history to understand why the migration. When they migrated will answer several questions. Land was plentiful and available, job, fertile soil, trade routes were established from the east, south and Canada land and water routes led to Missouri. Missouri became the jumping off point to points far west along the Oregon trail north and the Santa Fe trail south or sailing south down the Mississippi. All these routes converged in eastern Missouri.

After the Revolutionary War the land west of the Appalacians was finally open for US migration west, once the English lost, but migrations were stalled due to conflicts, allegiances and trade with various major indian nations. But limited opportunity, and land and lack of personal or religious freedom in Europe drew millions to immigrate to the US. In the US the increasing population and demand for more land and opportunity pushed the population west. Routes along the way, land conditions, water, resources, perceived opportunties along the way served drew families or small communities to establish waystations, stores, and eventually towns and cities along these routes. Many continues west. Missouri became a focal point. I don't know if you have visited the area, but it is beautiful. Even in the 1700's the draw was the fertile soil, lumber, mines, trade routes. Settlements bloomed and drew people. Eventually though, with the gold rush, establishment of the first transcontintental railroad and growth on the west cost, the Panama Canal, the flood of population west was unstoppable and Missouri suffered the loss of much trade and focus as the population continued West.

The geo-political situation in the 1700's and early 1800's was incredible with land changing hands from Spanish to French or English and US Territory. Large populations of people crossed the Mississippi River My family was in Ste. Genevieve in the late 1700's. Beautiful town along the Mississippi. Folks headed North and south along the river from there. Forts were established along the river and trade routes to protect settlers or as a strategic point of defense for various competeing countries to establish a base/presence for control. As areas became safer towns grew and spread from many of these forts.

My 4 greatgrandfather, John W. Angle/Engel, died in NW St. Louis (Florrisant) in 1818. He had a Spanish land grant that included land where the St. Louis airport now stands. One son, Francis, my ancestor, headed north from St. Charles to Louisiana about 1820 with a long time family friend John Bayse, another (John W. Jr.) headed south to Potosi where the mines are and eventually (in the late 1800's and early 1900's these families headed west.)

Don't know if that helps. I work in a library and I have probably read a good 7 or 8 books on the history of the area. It is really fascinating

Laurie C. Angel (ggrandfather changed the name from Angle)
