I've been to Morelock and maybe Cain/Collett which is up the road from Morelock. Seems as if True were in both.

Easiest would be to call the Putnam Co. library at Unionville and see if they have the obit. They have a great collection of obits and tombstone inscriptions.1-660-947-3192
Really don't know why they did not put dates on the cemetery listing.
Who are you looking for.

Hill in the 1880 Census.

It appears that Harriet Hill died in 1891 and
James Franklin Hill later married Amanda Williams. It may be that Martha married Wilbur Ruston about the time of her mother's death (prior to her father's second marriage).

There is a Martha Ruston buried in the Union Grove Cemetery in Putnam Co., MO. She died on August 21, 1893 at the age of 22 years, 11 months, and 14 days.

Edna Mearl Ruston was born on January 28, 1892 in Pollock, Sullivan County, MO.

If this is Edna's mother, she would have died when Edna was only 1 years old.

Apparently Wilbur Ruston married Kate Waldeck on Nov. 3, 1894. She had a daughter Bessie at the time that was the same age as Enda. (C-1900 Census)

Pollock, Sullivan County, MO is just about 12 miles from Unionville, Sullivan County, MO.

a follow-up to the above post -
The unit from Putnam county was also sent to Howard county the first week of November 1864 to give a military presence at polling stations for the presidential election that year. Since that area was heavy with rebel sympathy, they couldn't get much support from the locals to do what the Union command wanted.

I've heard from one person that the people in that area resented the Putnam County Militia being there and a lot of blame was put on them for some "executions" of more than one or two civilians and a lot of property destruction in Howard and Chariton counties. I can't determine if any of it was warranted or not. The "History of Putnam County" written in the 1880's suggests the Putnam county units were falsely accused of many atrocities and were almost the perfect soldiers.
Probably the truth is somewhere in between and we may never know for sure what really did or didn't happen.

anyone have any Putnam County civil war stories?

No actual "battle" occured within the county that I can find, but there was some activity - as with every county in Missouri.

In researching my great-great-grandfather's civil war role, I've found he served from 37-39 days active duty in Captain Peter Thompson's Company C with the 45th Enrolled Missouri Militia between August & November 1862. The time was spent guarding the unit's armory of rifle-muskets (probably kept at the courthouse), assisting the provost marshal to arrest suspected disloyals, some patroling, and fighting with guerrilla leader Bill Dunn's band in the area. 30 men of the 45th EMM garrisoned in Unionville all that summer.

Again in 1864 he was called into Captain G.W.R. Ledford's Company E to go to Macon County to help thwart any threat on the Union District Headquarters in Macon City when Sterling Price was pushing northward with 11,000 men in September-November 1864.
Hello, I am wondering if you can help me. I am researching our Sullivan family Line. They lived in the Missouri area from the 1850s through the turn of the century. We are not sure of the eldest parents names but understand that they passed away sometime during the Civil War in the Pest House near Ironton, Missouri. We were also told that this "Pest House" was later referred to as the "Poor Farm". They had several children that were taken in by various family and area people following their parent's death from the Small Pox. Two of the children were William Victor Sullivan (born in Dec 1859) and his brother, John L. Sullivan (born in August 1856). We believe there were two sisters, N.Nancy and Elizabeth (Lizzie). We believe there may have been others but can't be sure. William was reportedly born in Liberty, Iron County, Missouri and in all likliness, so were his siblings. We would love to know more about the family should anyone know. William Victor Sullivan married Etta Caroline Braswell, Lizzie married Nathan Oneal. A small note that a cousin has shared has some information written on it that, "the Sullivans were buried near the "Ivester Farm". We are not sure if there may be a cemetery there somewhere or that they were buried on what is now "private property". We would love to discover the whereabouts of their final resting place. Other families associated are the "Carnahans" Stevenson or Stepherson" "Hubble" "Oneal" and "MCfadden" Should you have any information, please email me at glendalecrazy@aol.com or give me a call at 406-465-5667. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My mother-in-law passed away last Monday. She was Retha's sister - Rosie Thompson. We live in Granada Hills, CA. I was just going through pictures and have many very old pictures of Earl, Susie, and their children. We would like to know if any of the other sisters are alive. Rosie was a twin, and Ruby is still alive and lives with her daughter in Sacramento, CA.
