W.E. DAVIS, RETIRED, DIES HERE SATURDAY
Dr. William E. Davis, 84, 803 east North Main, retired Baptist minister, died at 7:55 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Ray County Memorial Hospital. He had been seriously ill one day, following a heart attack.
He was born May 2, 1880, in Lafayett county, Mo., one of five children of John S. Davis of North Carolina and Sarah L. (Adams) Davis.
He had lived in Ray County 34 years. He served as pastor of the Baptist church here from January, 1930 until October, 1944, and at Brunswick, Mo., from 1944 to 1947, when he retired and terturned to Richmond to make him home.
During the time he was pastor here the new Baptist church was built and he supervised the job. After that he was supervisor on construction of several other churches, including the Chandler Baptist church at the intersection of Highway 69 and 33 in Clay County.
He received his education at William Jewell college in Liberty and his Ph. D. degree from the University of the Potomas.
Surviving are a son, William E. Davis of 9726 Sagamore Road, Leawood, Kan. and granddaughter, Mrs. Charles Albert Elliott III of Topeka, Kan.
