Surnames: CARTER BRAY MARTIN
from his Civil war pension file-They moved to Ray county about 1885. He is on the 1883 list of pensioners in Scotland County MO. Prior to that they are in Milan, Sullivan Co Mo (1870 and 1880 census) and possibly Chillicothe, Livingston Co. In 1875-6 he applies for the original Pension in Mattoon, Coles Co IL that is near where his father, Robert Carter lives (Christian Co IL). Their child Paris McKinney Carter (my Grgrandfather) was born in IL on April 11, 1876.
Benjamin and Sarah were married 30July1867 in Milan, Sullivan Co Mo.
In 1898 they listed their children as:
Milton Carter b. December 14, 1871
Paris Carter b. April 11, 1876
Emma Carter b. September 28, 1876
Robert Carter b. November 8, 1882
Henery A. Carter b.March 8, 1886
Madeebell Carter b. September 22, 1888
Nellie L Carter b. February 14, 1892

Benjamin reports a previous wife-Cathern Maleoy who died at Nashville, Brown co. IN in 1866.
[They had a son named George. ]
Son in law-Robert T. (Thomas) Martin, married Emma, made a statement for Benjamin re his disability from his Gunshot wound to his R thigh and other health problems.
