NELLIE MAE POGUE
Nellie Mae POGUE, daughter of the late Lucy Chitwood and Neal Stroup was born in Ellington, on Dec. 25, 1915 and departed this life at her residence in Redford on Dec. 29, 1987 having attained the age of 72 years.
On March 29, 1930 she was united in marriage to Elmer Cook and to this union 11 children were born. Elmer preceded her in death on March 25, 1982. On March 14, 1983 she was united in marriage to Denver POGUE. Nellie was a member of the Redford Baptist Church, and was a lifetime resident of the Ellington area.
Nellie was preceded in death by one son: Burnell Cook; four brothers: Raymond Stroup, Jess Stroup, Lonzo Stroup, and Woodrow Stroup; three sisters: Clarie Stewart, Dovie Foster, and Edna Gore; and one granddaughter. She is survived by her husband Denver POGUE, of the home; five sons: Arthur Lee Cook of Ellington, Lawrence Eugene Cook of Sweet Springs, Winfred Gerald Cook of Sedalia, Cecil Murl Cook of Florence, and Jerry Ray Cook of Otterville; five daughters: Erma Louise Sherrill of Smithton, Wilma Lorene Turner of Edmond, Okla., Bernice Kutz of North Versailles, Pa., Judy May Masterson of Otterville, Linda Kay Chitwood of Smithton; and one sister, Dolly Willis of Ellington; 32 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the Redford Baptist Church on Jan. 1, at 10 a.m. Rev. Marvin Richards was in charge of the service and burial was in the Ellington Memorial Cemetery. Pewitt-McSpadden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
