I am in possession of a class photo of approximately 87 pupils plus their teacher Mr. Burwell Fox. It was taken in 1892 and on the back are the pupils' names, plus who was deceased as of 8/28/1942, the occasion of the 50th anniversary of when the photo was taken. The transcriber was Lulu E. Barton, according to the back of the photo. She also has provided the names of the pupils enrolled but not present on the day of the picture. The photo belonged to my husband's great-uncle, Edward Mitchell Lands, who eventually became a teacher/Baptist minister in Reynolds Co., Mo. His grandmother was Nancy Barton, daughter of John and Mary "Polly" (Earles) Barton. If anyone is interested, I could look and see if your relative is on it. Thank you.

I am looking for info on one Rebecca REYNOLDS who was suppose to have married a John ALLEN/ALLIN in the 1600`s In Massachusetts. I can find no concrete proof of a marriage ever exsisting between these two. Has anyone ever been able to prove this? Now here is my dillema with this:

My husband is a direct descendant of Abraham ALLEN who is said to be the sone of John ALLEN and Rebecca REYNOLDS. Now, there is another John ALLEN that is married to a Mercy PETERS for which I am able to find a marriage record. I have to wonder if in fact my Abraham ALLEN was the son of John ALLEN and Mercy PETERS. If not then who was his father John ALLEN married to if not Rebecca REYNOLDS.

Gwen
I am looking for info. on William WELSH (b. 1826 Ohio) who was a physician in Reynolds County in the 1860's & 1870's. I found him and his family in the 1870 Census in Lesterville. His wife was Mary & they had 5 children: Carroll, Lucy, Emily, John and Martha. In the 1880 Census I found a William Welsh listed as "kept by county" and "insane". Maybe its my William Welsh since the age is correct. I also found Carroll separately in that Census, but not the rest of the family. Does anyone know of this family or have any suggestions for me? Carroll and his family later lived in Redford. I will appreciate any help.

I am seeking information on Thomas Edward Jackson. He was the son of Othar and Gertie Jackson. They resided in Centerville. Thomas was killed in 1944 in Belgium and his remains were returned to Missouri. I am guessing he is buried near his parents in a cemetery near Centerville. I am hoping he is listed in an inventory of a cemetery near Centerville. It is my hope to locate the cemetery he is buried in.

Thanks,
Gene Beals

My husband's grandmother is Essie Lucille Barton nee Copeland. She was born to Clara Copeland who later married Marion Montgomery. Essie was born Aug of 1917 and in 1920 Essie is living with Clara and her stepfather Marion Montgomery. I have no record of Essie's biological father. I do not know who he is or when he passed. I do not know if they were divorced before 1920 or if her father passed. If anyone has any information on this line please let me know....I have been searching for a while on her and have not been able to find out much. I have Clara Montgomery's death certificate but the person informing them did not know much about her.

Looking for a match for my Buckner line

Looking for a match for my Buckner line need to find John E. Buckners parents can anyone help?
John Buckner according to his daughter Ida was born in the Iron County Missouri area about 1851 and according to records John's parents were born in Tennessee .In 1879 Iron County Missouri, John married Phoebe Lewis who was born in Sabula, Iron County, Missouri. Robert and Mary Griffith who were the parents of Pheobe were from Tennessee.
John and Phoebe Lewis Buckner had 7 children together all girls namely; Ida Bell Buckner Clopp, Maude or Mody Buckner Gunnett, Leatha Pearl Buckner Gunnett- Plummer, Lula Buckner Boese , Minnie D. Buckner Carleton - Rapp, Zora A. Buckner Vanderwerff and Ila Buckner.
Phoebe died during childbirth August 16 1899 in Iron County Missouri from census records on John it seems he never re-married but raised the girls on his own .Of course marriages could have occured between census years however nothing has surfaced to show that happened.
John was a farmer through out his life and did well it seems for he had patent to land in the Iron County area and on the 1900 census it shows that his home was a farm it was owned and not mortgaged. His land transfer papers for 1902 and 1904 could be for this farm he already owned or another in addition to what he owned in 1900.He was all ready well established by 1900 therefore he had lived in the area for some time at this point.
John lived in the Iron County area up until the years between 1910 and 1920 , he was living with his daughter Zora and her husband Richard Vanderwerff Jan of 1920 on Warren street in the North St. Louis area.
John's date of birth varies from census to census , he has a different age on all which places him being born from 1850 to 1856 and if the death notice is correct his birth would be 1852 /53.
Death certificate found for John Buckner St Louis Missouri and death notice gives his death as Dec 1920 in St. Louis Missouri, the death certificate gives his fater as John Buckner mother not given.
Does anyone have anything on how either of these folks died? They are my great-grandparents and have hit a brick wall. According to the 1910 census, it says Armilda was widowed and the youngest child was about 2, so I am guessing that Albert died around 1908. They married 9-3-1887. Anyway, Armilda - who has also been listed as Amelia and Armilla, is the daughter of George & Catharine Barton and Albert is the son of Thomas & Catharine Smith. Armilda is buried in the Barton Cemetery in Reynolds County in a handmade headstone with only her name and I do not know where Albert is buried. If anyone has any information or know where I could get some clues, I would gladly appreciate it.

Resource for Early Reynolds Co., MO Settlers

"History of Early Reynolds County, Missouri," published in 1986 by James E. BELL, Black, MO:

States that Reynolds Co. was formed in 1845 from Shannon Co. Many of the original settlers came via Washington Co., thus the author included information on Washington, as well as other nearby counties prior to 1845. Unfortunately (per author) records for Reynolds County were lost in two fires. Even its parent counties lost their records to fires as well, thus severely restricting available information from the early periods.

Mr. BELL has brought together material concerning many early settlers to include the following: Henry PADGET, Andrew HENRY, Landon COPELAND, Collin C. CAMPBELL, William C. LOVE, James MAXWELL, John BUFORD, Pate BUFORD, Marvin MUNGER, and James CROWNOVER.

Henry PADGET/T was the first settler in 1812. Under the alias Henry FRY he remained in the area for many years and finally died sometime after 1860, being over 104 years old!

Andrew HENRY is credited with being the second settler For a number of these men, descendants were found and they have written their family history; thus providing much missing depth. A total of over 200 surnames are included in this book.

This is an informational note only, I do not have the book. I thought you might like to be aware of it; perhaps you can locate a copy in your genealogy library.

Death Question

Okay, this may be a real dumb question, but is there a place in Reynolds County that may have kept death certificates/records from 1908? I am looking for my great grandfather's to find out his cause of death and my problem is that I only know the year in which he died. Anyway, I think I read where the Courthouse burnt down so I didn't know if the records and or copies would have been kept somewhere else. Thank you!
