I agree with ImKara, there are several Johnsons in my family tree as well and my husbands too for that matter. We have seen the name changing through the years in the course of our research. And sometimes you will run across misspellings. For instance my maiden name is Eads. I have seen it spelled Eades in some of my ancestors. My sisters birth certificate also incorrectly lists her last name as Eades instead of Eads. Hope this helps and since there are many Johnsons/Johnstons in our tree I would like to know more about Johnson Shut ins as well. I always wanted to go there but everytime we ventured there they were closed. We ended up camping nearby and visiting Elephant Rocks.

Well, maybe not so amazing. Just a disappearance. James and Dortha (Boyd/Boyet) Cook were married in 1884 in Reynolds Co., MO. I have evidence that they had at least one child and possibly three: Dollie May, Charley, and Ed. These three are listed as servants on the 1900 census -- in Wayne County families (Dollie May and Charles in the family of Hugh and Visa Walker). There's no sign of James and Dortha in 1900. No news. No online records. I am prepping for a trip to the area, and any info would be helpful. James' (born 1851) father was a George Cook. Dortha was born in 1864. Thanks.

Hi,

My Grandmothers family was Johnson and I am finding as I research that it may have been Johnston back in the 1700s and was changed as was a lot of names for various reasons when they came to America. That spelling has shown up in our history. I do not recognize the name you mentioned in our background tho. When pilgrims landed some changed their names and some I found changed due to native dialect. It seems another side added an S somewhere along the line and I suspect it came about due to the dialect of the area. ex: you and your family for youns, ...etc. Hope this helps.

Tamber Busby Barton is my ggaunt. Her brother was Albert Orville Busby (my g grandfather). Their father was William Steve Busby. Story tells he moved family up from Texas in 1850's. I would like to know about their mother,(William's wife) or any other family member. I have a family story told to us many times by our "old timers".
My grandpa always said,"Levi Barton was the meanest man ever to walk in Oregon County Missouri. "
One night Levi and Frank Busby, Tamber's brother, were drinking in Levi's house. Frank started getting baligerant and began saying how he was going to cut Tamber's hair. Since Tamber was a devout southern baptist woman cutting her hair would have been a disgrace. After a while of Frank going on about it and Levi telling him he wasn't, Levi pulled his side arm on Frank. As Frank was unarmed, he went to his car to get his gun. As he came back in, Levi shot him thru the screen door. Frank died in the house almost immediately after.
That is all I know about her. I do know that for some reason, she lived with my g grandmother Mary Jane Sweeney Busby and Albert Orville till she married Levi Barton. Many of us thought she was their daughter till we did the math. Mary Jane was born in 1888. Tamber was born in 1893. She died in Phelps Missouri in 1986. I never met her.
If anyone has any info on Tamber's parents or info on Mary Jane Sweeney b.1888 in Ky d. 1966 Earlton, Neosho County, Kansas. I think Mary Jane might have been adopted and had a sister that was adopted as well.
You can email me @ susiebusby72@gmail.com
Thank you
Susie

Remember there is a 20 yr gap in the census record from 1880 - 1900; so add 20 yrs to everyone's age. Some may have died, move away, married, etc.........

Thank you for your reply. I have tried everything to no avail. I cannot find Athali or the Pigg family after that 1880 census. I am hoping someone will remember a family story or something. This line is my brick wall. There was was not much mentioned & when there was my mother was to young to think about asking more questions. Thanks Again & God Bless

I’m not related to any member of this family.

1930 is the last available searchable census at this time.

1880 -
Name: Athali Howard
Age: 20
Birth Year: abt 1860
Birthplace: Missouri
Home in 1880: Mill Spring, Wayne, Missouri
Race: White
Gender: Female
Marital Status: Single
Father's Birthplace: Missouri
Mother's Birthplace: Missouri
Occupation: Servant

Mathew Pigg 41, Oh
Easter C. Pigg 35, OH
Mary A. Pigg 64, OH - widowed mother
Athali Howard 20, MO

1900 is the next census, so add 20 yrs to Athali Howard's age.
My Grandmother Nora Howard told us that when she was a little girl they had an Aunt that lived with the family (household of Thomas Ezekiel(Zeke)Howard) & used a cane. She said the Aunt was quite old. She remembered the woman dying & they had her body laid out in the main room of the house. It would have been between 1913-1924, and quite possibly on or near the old Carter Farm. That is where my Grandmother was born. Would appreciate help in identifying the Aunt. I have came to a stand still on this line. My Grandmothers line is... her father Thomas Ezekiel Howard, his father was Benjamin Franklin Howard, his father was Jimmy or James of South Carolina. Would also appreciate help tracking down the children in the following census...
*Blackriver, Wayne County, MO...1860
James Howard	56 SC.
Letha Howard	24 TN.
Thomas Howard	13 MO.
George Howard	10 MO.
Franklin Howard	11 MO... my gr. gr. Grandfather, Benjamin
Joshua Howard	6 TN.
Sarah F Howard	4 MO.
Ridley Howard	3 MO.
Attelli Howard	6/12 MO.
Sarah E Howard	8 MO.
Only two are found after 1860.. Franklin, 1870 in the household with David Clark as a farm hand, and Athali, 1880 living in the household of Matthew Pigg as a house girl, Cannot find Athali after 1880. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, I am wondering if you can help me. I am researching our Sullivan family Line. They lived in the Missouri area from the 1850s through the turn of the century. We are not sure of the eldest parents names but understand that they passed away sometime during the Civil War in the Pest House near Ironton, Missouri. We were also told that this "Pest House" was later referred to as the "Poor Farm". They had several children that were taken in by various family and area people following their parent's death from the Small Pox. Two of the children were William Victor Sullivan (born in Dec 1859) and his brother, John L. Sullivan (born in August 1856). We believe there were two sisters, N.Nancy and Elizabeth (Lizzie). We believe there may have been others but can't be sure. William was reportedly born in Liberty, Iron County, Missouri and in all likliness, so were his siblings. We would love to know more about the family should anyone know. William Victor Sullivan married Etta Caroline Braswell, Lizzie married Nathan Oneal. A small note that a cousin has shared has some information written on it that, "the Sullivans were buried near the "Ivester Farm". We are not sure if there may be a cemetery there somewhere or that they were buried on what is now "private property". We would love to discover the whereabouts of their final resting place. Other families associated are the "Carnahans" Stevenson or Stepherson" "Hubble" "Oneal" and "MCfadden" Should you have any information, please email me at glendalecrazy@aol.com or give me a call at 406-465-5667. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I will have to get the photo out again. I thought all the requests for it had come in. So, give me a bit of time to do that. What Bartons are you kin to? Maybe we are related. I do not remember the name Chadd on the photo.
