I would like to join with other Stephens researchers in finding more information on Washington Stephens b. 1777 in VA, md 1805 in Roane Co., TN to Judah Benson, was in Roane state census and tax lists about 1805, bought land in Jefferson Co., MO in 1840. He is found in Marion Co., TN in 1830 census; Jefferson County, MO in 1840-50 censuses, not found on 1860 census. Can you help? I am trying to connect this family to my ancestor John Doc/k Stephens b. abt 1820 in middle TN who later moved to DeKalb, AL. Some known children of Washington (see 1850 census) are Matilda (nee Paine/Payne) b. abt 1824, Marshal b. abt 1826-30, Jackson b. abt 1828, and George b. abt 1833--all b. in TN. Suspected other children are Robert and my John Doc Stephens, possibly Benjamin Stephens or Rufus Stephens (TN records about the same time frame). I am wondering if Washington can be connected with Joseph Stephens of NC b. abt 1756. Beyond Joseph, DNA has connected my line to the Richard Stephens-Mary Dines/Dynes family of early records.
