Roy Q. Edwards, 47, of Venice, IL., died February 5 at the Scott Air Force Base Hospital. Mr. Edwards, a member of the Venice police force, had been ill with cancer for several months and had been in the hospital most of the time since Thanksgiving. He had been home for a week before re-entering the hospital before his death.
Born at Chaffee, Mr. Edwards went to Venice as a child. He spent 23 year in the Navy, leaving the service in 1960. He joined the Venice police force in May of that year.
He was a member of the Venice-Madison American Legion Post 307, Scottish Rite at Jacksonville, Florida; Masonic Lodge No. 877 and Madison Co. Police Association.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Julia Kackley of Venice and one brother, Wesley Edwards, who is police magistrate at Venice.
Mr. Edwards was a nephew of J. H. and Ed Collins of Sturdivant, Rosa Shelton of Bernie; Mrs. Tom Harris of Kankakee, IL; Mandy Mitchell of Venice, IL and Mrs. D. F. Elledge of Lutesville. Funeral services were held February 8. Burial was in Sunset Hills Cemetery near Venice, with military honors.
