Very Interesting!Paul Adams is Roy Adams son,Roy ran a store on the edge of Lesterville and I thought Ray and Roy were brothers?I'm sure you and/or Jim have heard of my Grandfather Ollie Adkins who had a Auto repair business about 1/2 mile from the Black River bridge and could fix anything. He also was the Maint man a the Black River Lodge 20 yr. Willam Adkins in the picture is Ollies Dad.My dad is Jim Adkins,we lived just down from Ollies garage.
Williams' dad was also William,he moved to Lesterville from Ms at least 1859.
What Lesters' are you decended from? When did the come to lesterville and from where? This is really great! If you want you can e-mail me. bluepontiacman@yahoo.com

Eric Adkins

My great grandmother, Mary "Molly" Victoria Mansfield Carney was a postmistress around Sinkin' Creek area in World War I. Does anyone have any information on early post offices or know where I can find it? Is there a Shannon County History book that lists the early post offices? I would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks.

Thank you for your reply. I have met Ken Fiebleman, and yes, I bought his books. I do have many relatives that lived in Dent County for many years, so it has been a great resource for me. Would you mind telling me what you remember about Sinkin' Creek?? My grandfather, Fount Carney, was born on Sinkin' Creek. I would appreciate any tidbit of information you might have. Thanks.

Fascinating! I figured there was no way we had the same photo, seeing how this is on the Australian board! Much less, you being in the same area as me. I just spoke on the phone to a Jim Adams who lives in Desloge. His dad was the Ray Adams mentioned. I asked him if he knew a Paul and he said no. I called my mom and she is going to call Jim. She knows him and they are close in age. Somehow we may end up knowing more.

For what it's worth, my Lester family settled Lesterville. I saw you had some posts about Reynolds Co/Lesterville. I'll ask mom about the school you inquired about.

LuAnn

I can't really help you with your inquiry but your post came up first in a Google search I just did for this O. E. Monnet.

I, too, have a photograph of a group of men as you described.

Faintly on the back of mine it is dated Nov. 15th, 1891
(town? can't read), Washington

My group is four men standing in back with two sitting in front, one holding a fiddle and the other a guitar.
It was in a paper bag that says belongs to Ray Adams (whom my mom knows). (we don't know the men in the picture tho)

Just thought I'd share.

LuAnn

Reed was married to Drucilla Baker and if so then we have ties through this marriage. My interest is concerning the Civil War activities in Shannon County and the surrounding area. Please email me at cbjames49@hotmail.com or if you prefer you may call me directly at 660-815-4862 and leave me a number where I can contact you.

Hi Doug,
Thank you for writing me back. Of course, I have been anxiously waiting for your response :)

I totally understand the shock of all this. You are just now learning what I've known about since I was 15 years old when my cousin swore me to secrecy and first told me I had a different father. Naturally, I told my mother and she had to tell me the truth. Apparently it was a family secret and at the tender age of 15, the discovery nearly destroyed me. Yet I've always known I was very different from my other siblings and have since longed to know more about my real father. I regret not asking my mother more questions about him while she was alive but I was afraid to bring it up again. None the less, I never stopped thinking about him. Genes run deep.

In the late 1980's when my aunt finally gave me the picture of my father & mother together taken in 1945, it was the first time I saw what he looked like. It made it all real. I thank God she saved the photo to give to me when I was an adult. I have since treasured this picture and now that my mother has died, I have it in a frame in my living room. My 3 children also have it framed and in their homes as well. I have a few more pictures of him when he was younger and also of his parents. Everyone says there is a strong likeness between he and I. I also have the large dimple in my left cheek that our grandmother Sophia had.

Doug, I know this will take some time to digest and I only hope you are not afraid to communicate with me. I have prayed for so long to make contact with my relations on the Ellington side. And when I saw your posts on Ancestry (by chance)saying Owen Ronald Ellington was your father, immediately knew we were related. At first I was very nervous, also afraid of more rejection, but how could I keep silent?

There is so much more I'd like to write, but need to stop for now. If you feel more comfortable, we can write direct through email. Please don't be afraid to share this with Cathy in time. We are not alone in our discovery of each other. A lot happened during and after the war was over. I can only imagine what our parents went through. It's what movies are made of and novels written. I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
Hello Doug,
I am so pleased to finally hear from you. At times I gave up, but not really. What I have to tell you may be too sensitive to share with other's on the post. I'm not sure if you have access to my family tree information on Ancestry. If you don't, write me and I will give you access. My family tree is called The Ellington/Bays Family Tree. I have photos and information you can see on what I have added so far. You are welcome to any other information I have as well. It's a work in progress.

Sophia Huff & Roscoe Ellington were my paternal grandparents. Their son Owen, was also my father. That would make me your half sister. I found our cousin (Joyce Mitchell) through ancestry and we have been communicating through our personal emails for almost a year now. Her grandmother and my/our grandmother were sisters as I'm sure you already know. I can continue to write more via the Shannon post if you like, or we can correspond through our own personal email accounts. Please let me know because I am just so happy and excited to be hearing from you. I don't want to do or say anything that would hender our communicating with each other. I look forward to hearing from you very soon. Sincerely, Teresa

I once had several newspaper articles that someone sent me but at the time I didn't consider them important enough to keep - didn't want to offend family. I've had several requests from people to supply information about that incident but I still feel uncomfortable doing it.
I had thought to keep the articles for future reference, but I'm not even sure that's important anymore. I wasn't aware of the other incident you mentioned about a girl killing her parents.

Does anyone have any info on Andrew Kendrick birth year 1866,and Thomas Kendrick birth year 1871. These were the sons of William Kendrick born about 1829 in Wales and Sarah Huskey.
William Kendrick and Sarah Huskey were married in Jefferson co. Mo. This info came from the 1880 census, they were residing in Jackson Township,Shannon County,Missouri. The census showed Judah Huskey,William's father in law as Head of household.
Thanks for the info, that clears up some of the mystery. If I could only find point of entry for William Kendrick or where he was naturalized. He was born about 1829 in Wales, the family history says that at age 15yrs. he ran away from home and came to America. I figure in those days at 15 yrs you were considered a man, but I don't know if he stowed away or worked his passage over.

i understand your concern. for memories unneccessarily brought up to family. as a child my mom talked about it but never in total detail. the articlke i had was in detail.but it was almost like one of those cowboy books they used to sell in the 1800's..i knew the story was true but it was written almost in dimestore form magazine. i don't know what library it was found and i can't recall its name. secrets are safe with me because i have a horrid memory.. the other story mom used to talk about some concerned a 16 or 17 yr old girl whose parents owned what i think in later years might have been cecils cafe on main street there. i think they lived in a house behind the cafe. she apparently killed her mom or dad at home and then the other parent at the cafe and hid that one under a bed in a back room. i guess the cafe was closed and people started noticing her buying new clothes that was very unusual mom said.i am not sure how many days it took for someone to start asking questions but i do recall mom saying they found her guilty of both murders and sentenced her to life i thought. but she got out because i think mom read it in a paper someplace.she served 25 or 30 years i know mom said. my mom could recall all sorts of stories of growing up around eminence..as a kid i was enthralled with her stories.. as were my kids...of course we all have heard of the headless horseman in satler fields...lol
