I'm researching a different Wm. Mewes, also from Prussia. Mine lived in IL & MO and died in MO. Don't know if you know about the death certificates online at http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/birthdeath/ but I know I've seen the name Pendleton on one or more of the certificates I was sorting through. I think Mewes was eventually changed to Mavis because that's how it was pronounced in German (not like a cat's mew) and the only way to get English speakers to pronounce it right was to change the spelling so they could figure it out.

Thanks for answering my query & on the info on Abraham G. Mason. I had most of it. I was just trying to find out more about Arthur Hardy on the 1880 Monroe co MO census.

On the 1870 Monroe co MO census, I believe the census taker made a mistake on the name Joseph Hastings. It should be Josephine Hastings, who was a niece of Abraham Gartin Mason.

Abraham G. Mason was my great granduncle.

Seeking information on Arthur Hardy who married Nellie Easum on 14 Oct 1890 Shelby co MO. This Arthur Hardy died March 1895 Shelby co MO. Is he the same Arthur Hardy b about 1859-60 KY, son of Mary M Mason of Monroe co MO & William Thomas Hardy of Marion co KY? The Arthur Hardy I am trying to trace was in his uncle's household (Abraham Gartin Mason) on the 1880 Monroe co MO. His parents were back & forth from Monroe co MO to Marion co KY. His parents & some siblings died in Marion co KY, after 1880. Thanks.

I had to do a search in my computer but found the Salem Church and there is a cemetery attached to it. I just looked at a list of burials for that cemetery and no Andersons. I am thinking there is another church out south of Shelbina and west on a gravel road but it has been sometime since I was out there. A person might be able to track them in the land records and see where they were when the husband died and look for cemeteries then. I would believe that he was buried on the land they owned and the graves had disappeared or they were buried in some other county. The wife was still alive in 1880 living with her daughter. Was she buried in Marion County? There is a Spencer Chapel cemetery south of Shelbina off on a gravel road.Looking at a list for that cemetery there appears to be no Andersons. From a list in Monroe county the Greenwood Cemtery has no Andersons.

Hello, sorry I have been lax in responding, health issues.
My Botts' are from KY, MO, OK, KS, and CA, and they are still spread throughout. Now, Givan/Givens/Givin, and so on, are, from MD as far as the census can be trusted, the people can be trusted. My Givens were from MD, starting with Robert Givens/Givan 1850 Shelby Co. MO. b. 1783. His will is on the MOGENWEB for Shelby Co. Not the will rather a transcript of names, stating to sons Joseph, Daniel and Hiram. The only son not present in 1850 is Joseph. Now as for Sarah J. Givens Daniel's daughter, she married Charles W. Walker in Shelby Co. in 1866. I can find them in 1870 and 1880 Shelby Co. But, the disappear from existance after that. With such common names as Charles, Sarah and Walker, searches are nearly impossible. They had several children Daniel W., Dorthulia Caldonia/Dona, Lockie V, and Susan. Caldonis is my greatgrandma, marrying John Jefferson Dobson 1890, Miller Co. Mo. So, between 1880 and 1890 they moved or at least visited Miller Co. long enough for the marriage. That pretty much sums up my knowledge of this line of Givens/Walkers.

I am continually hitting a brick wall to determine the name of my Pennel great-great-great-grandfather. My great-great-grandmother Eliza (Elizabeth?) Pennel (spelling on marriage certificate) was born between November 17, 1816 (year from Shelby County, MO Old Settler's Register). She was born in Atrim Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. The family ended up in Sharpsburg, Washington County, Maryland. I'm unsure if the state line was realigned at some point as Atrim Township, Pennsylvania, is directly across the state line from Washington County, Maryland. Eliza married William Eakle (also from Washington, County, Maryland) in Shelby County, Missouri. From letters to Eliza (living in Shelby County, MO) from her family (living in Sharpsburg, MD), it appear her mother's name was Margaret. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I am wondering if you can help me. I am researching our Sullivan family Line. They lived in the Missouri area from the 1850s through the turn of the century. We are not sure of the eldest parents names but understand that they passed away sometime during the Civil War in the Pest House near Ironton, Missouri. We were also told that this "Pest House" was later referred to as the "Poor Farm". They had several children that were taken in by various family and area people following their parent's death from the Small Pox. Two of the children were William Victor Sullivan (born in Dec 1859) and his brother, John L. Sullivan (born in August 1856). We believe there were two sisters, N.Nancy and Elizabeth (Lizzie). We believe there may have been others but can't be sure. William was reportedly born in Liberty, Iron County, Missouri and in all likliness, so were his siblings. We would love to know more about the family should anyone know. William Victor Sullivan married Etta Caroline Braswell, Lizzie married Nathan Oneal. A small note that a cousin has shared has some information written on it that, "the Sullivans were buried near the "Ivester Farm". We are not sure if there may be a cemetery there somewhere or that they were buried on what is now "private property". We would love to discover the whereabouts of their final resting place. Other families associated are the "Carnahans" Stevenson or Stepherson" "Hubble" "Oneal" and "MCfadden" Should you have any information, please email me at glendalecrazy@aol.com or give me a call at 406-465-5667. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
