Yes - the John Guitar that died in 1848 is my great-great-great-grandfather, who emigrated from Bordeaux, France in 1794. I have found invaluable info on RootsWeb.com for all branches of the Guitar family. Here is the link if you're interested: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...

Hello mitchl1221 !
I've run into some info on this family in Boone-i just am pretty sure there is a link- but i do wonder what the connection *could* be between the (your ) Boone co and the(my) St Gen/St Francois Guitars. Ive not made any headway to a any clues.

it did seem that there was some overlap of 1st names - -per my earlier post above.

"I have found there are Guitars in Carol Co & Boone Co Missouri areas pre 1840's- A John Guitar who dies in 1848. land records can be found on him for Boone. He has a son(also) John(jr) who WAS a confederate soldier.(union prisoner records) He lived in Boone co after the war. Im just trying to find links...but so far, nothing lights up. However...some Common family names, in the boone Co Guitars that also appear in "MY" Guitar's of Ste Genevieve Co Mo... Flemming, Gideon, being the unusual names.(less common- ie Thomas, Wm & James...) Just a line of thought per the nameing children after their parents/siblings. "
still i appreciate your reply!!

I still don't know what happened to Samuel Guitar - i can only surmise he died during the civil war/ have found he was in a milita troop but seems not to have been active in any organized just listed on one document in the missouri milita-- in 1862.

I believe I may have some info on the Guitar family from the Boone County area in Missouri. My maternal grandfather was James H. Guitar, son of John Guitar in Boone County Missouri. My grandfather had two sisters and a brother. Somehow the family wound up in West Texas (Colorado City/Abilene/Merkel area, to be exact).

Hello, This may be a long shot but as a promise to my late mother I'm trying to find information on my GrGrGrandmother. From what I was told she was born on the plantation of Thomas Maddin and was sold a long with her mother to Judge John Coffman. On her Death Certificate it has Thomas Maddin as her Father. I'am also trying to find out her mothers name to add to my Family Tree. There is also a baptisim record which shows Thomas Maddin as the slave owner and Caroline Maddin as the sponsor for 2 slave children, Elizabeth (6) and Lucinda (4). I'm trying to see if they are 2 of my GrGrGrands sisters. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Gwen Jones

Ms. Karen,
I see that you posted this some 11 years ago, so apologize for arriving so late in the game. My Great Grandmother was Ella Catherine Govereau (Spelling courtesy of a newspaper obituary, Death Bonne Terre MO 12/21/1903). Evidently she was born in St. Genevieve around 1866-67, and married my Great Grandfather William F. Mitchell. They had eight children, Harry C, Charles A, Burtha S, Mirtel M, John Lawrence (My Grandfather), Frank, Buford, and Marnie. Ella was 36 when she died, leaving my GGrandfather with eight kids (He never remarried). Family lore has it that a Doctor had lanced a lesion or boil on Ella's neck, and because the doctor didn't use sterile equipment, infection set in and she eventually died a painful death. Being the love of his life, this enraged my GGrandfather to the point where he picked up a gun and went hunting for this doctor. A family/friend/neighbor intervention ensued, and and after much coaxing, the entire family was loaded up on a train to Los Angeles, California. I would love to see your data and/or compare notes as I believe there must be a connection. Thank you! Kevin Mitchell

According to a short obituary published in the Ste. Genevieve Herald newspaper, she died in Danby, MO which is located in Jackson Township. She was buried in the Ste. Genevieve City Cemetery. However, according to a 1982 listing of tombstones in that cemetery, there is no tombstone for her. It indicated that she died of arterio sclerosis at age 79 years 1 month and 15 days. She died on May 27th and was buried on May 28th.
You might want to check the Festus, MO newspapers for information as Danby is close to that town.
You should also try the Basler Funeral Home, in Ste. Genevieve.

There are about 5 or more booklets of Cemetery information for Ste. Genevieve Co. to look in. Another thought, try the Farmington Public Library in case the family was by chance buried over the county lines. Farmington has an extensive obituary collection and index. Believe it has to be searched manually.

Looking for my gg-grandmother Rebecca Adaline Denton Halbrook, 1854-1933 (I'm descended from her son, Oscar Marcus Halbrook).

Her death certificate (as Adline Halbrook) states she died in Jackson and was buried in Ste. Genevieve. I found nothing online. I called the funeral home (now Stanton-Wood Mortuary; they have no records), then called the Ozark library (they found nothing, including in obits and book of tombstones).

It has been suggested that she is in a family cemetery or was buried elsewhere, yet I am confident that she is in or around Ste Genevieve.

I greatly appreciate anyone's insights as to research in the area... perhaps there is another library to try or old records for this funeral home elsewhere?

Thanks!

I am looking for information on the Franz/Frank Kohm family. He was born in Waldprechtsweier, Baden, Germany in 1834. From the http://www.auswanderer-bw.de website, there is a listing of a Franz Kohm from the Waldprechtsweier district who emigrated in 1854 at the age of 19. This is possibly the Frank Kohm I am looking for. Parents were Nikolaus Kohm and Anastasia Henhöfer - I relate to the Henhöfer line.
Frank died in 1918, and although his death certificate states he was born in 1832, his baptism record from Waldprechtsweier has his birth year as 1834. Information from Ancestry has his marriage to Bertha Klein in 1865.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I realize that this is quite a late response; however, I too am just beginning my ancestry research.

Francis Xavier is my great-great grandfather. I am related through his son Henry Charles. Henry, Ignatius and Franz 'Frank' Joseph all lived in Springfield, Illinois after leaving Saint Genevieve, Missouri.

Although I was born and raised in Springfield, I am now retired and living in Orlando, Florida.

I have some information that I can share. Please contact me at:
Bill Albright
11653 Peach Grove Lane
Orlando, FL 32821
407-778-4099
bluecape70@gmail.com

Donohue Family

Looking for information on the Donnohues who ended up in St Genevieve MO in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The original migrant was Joseph O'Donnohue who came from Ireland (Sligo City?) to Canada around 1765. He is said to have married Eliza Nortan of Bucks County PA in 1770 but may have been married to an Ann Naughton. At any rate he ended up in PA where his son son Joseph Daniel was supposedly born. They later moved to St Genevieve and had two other sons, John and Thomas and two or three daughters, Ann who married John Duvall in 1799 in MO, Rebecca who married Thomas Wright, and supposedly Sallie who married a Pettit. Joseph Daniel was born In 1776 and married Jemima Hazelrigg and then Elizabeth Chorn. John supposedly had a grandson in California but the family letters don't mentioning else. Thomas was a prominent Baptist minister and supposedly had a son named Joseph. I have found land records showing them near St Genevieve as far back as 1810 and church records showing them there even earlier. I believe my ancestor Janes T (Thomas?) Donnohue may be a descendent of these folks, particularly Thomas. I believe his mother, who I think was named Permilia or Pamela and may have married a Brown later in life, was married to one of Thomas's two sons. I am trying to locate the descendants of James T who was married to an Elisabeth Cissel in Perry County MO then to a Sarah Parker who bore my gggrandfather Commodere who was born in Perry County. He had a sister named Missouri and a brother named Van Horn. If Anyone knows anything related to these folks, please let me know. Thank you!

I just tried to find the death record Nancy M Underwood who married Ulysess Powell. while the certificate # is shown I can find 3 fold is doing a complete death records database for subscription fee. However the there was a listing for the Nancy M Parents which was Valentine Underwood and Hannah which they gave the indication her maiden name was Evans. I am needing info on Florence A Underwood she was listed 1870 census as 8 years old and again on the 1880 census in Montague Co. texas. I feel certain she is the lady that maried my G Uncle in 1882 she would have been about 22 at the time of the marriage. The Stories my cousin tells is her parents died when she was young and that is about what I know. Willing to share what I have. but there is something that bothers me. if Valentines death was indeed 1855 then My G Aunts info said she was born 1861/62 so that would not fit. My Uncle was James Henderson "Bud" Morris. Any help appreciated.
Lillie

Seek information about Steiger Haus Books. This apparently published books about Ste. Genevieve County history. They were formerly available through a Steiger Haus Bed and Breakfast in Ste. Genevieve, but apparently the owner of this died in 2008 and I am not certain whether the bed and breakfast is still in business and still has books for sale.

John A.
When Germann married Josepha Seitz, his sister Marie married Michael Seitz in a double wedding. It looks like the latest record I have for Germann is that his son Theodore Joseph Gherman died in St. Louis at the Little Sisters of the Poor in 1953 and was buried in DeDoto. Here is a link to the death certificate http://www.sos.mo.gov/images/archives/deathcerts/1953/1953_0...

You may contact me directly at judybelford@att.net
I remember there was a post office there. My father past away 8 yrs ago. I drove down there and tried to find the old house but it has changed , I think I found the general location.

Linda,
I don't have the obit but I can give you his parents names. They are Mathias Naeger (Neger) and Maria Sophia End. He was enumerated in the 1850 US Census living in Ste. Genevieve Co., MO so he would have come around 1846 and probably through New Orleans. The family was from Rammersweier, Baden. Siblings were: Wendelin, Ignace, Hermann, Anne Marie, Catherine, & Leopold.
Julie
