Paul Porterfield was the son of Elijah Samuel "Lige" Porterfield (b. 21 Mar 1864 in Wytheville, Virginia d. 15 Jan 1939 in Missour)and his wife Cora Lee Cook (b. 8 May 1869 in Wytheville, d. 19 Apr 1949 in St. Louis, MO; bur. Bonne Terre, St. Francois Co., MO.

Cora Lee Cook's father is James Cook b. 1840 in England, d. 1918 in Montana. Cora's mother is Frances "Frankey" Stoots, b. 1845 in Carroll Co., VA. Frances Stoots is the first wife of James Cook.
