FATAL SHOOTING NEAR OWL CREEK
___________

Victim Survived But Few Hours
___________

Last Tuesday morning about 10 o'clock a fatal shooting occurred on the highway between Desloge and Gumbo, at a point on the road near where the decent [sic] of the hill or incline approaches Owl Creek.

Geo. Wigger, Jr., a son of Geo. Wigger, Sr., and Roy Welch in company were on the way toward Gumbo when an altercation arose in some way and culminated in Wigger shooting Welch fatally. He died in a few hours, being so critically wounded as to render his recovery impossible.

Wigger was apprehended soon after the shooting by an officer of the law, Mr. Thompson, and brought to the County Bastile where he was incarcerated to await trial.

The frequent occurrence of this sort of tragedy is to be deplored as it tends to create a bad impression of this locality.
