Lester Earl Short of Farmington [St. Francois County, Mo.] passed away Jan. 30, 2001, at the Mineral Area Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 20, 1921, at Elvins, to the late Thomas and Eva (Schremp) Short. He was also preceded in death by three brothers: Clifford, Marvin and Melvin Short and by two sisters, Loveda Short and Esther Crawford.
Before his retirement he worked as an insurance agent for MFA and as a police officer for the city of Flat River. He proudly served his nation in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He was united in marriage on Aug. 16, 1941, to Nedra Ernestine (Johnson) Short, who survives. He is also survived by one son, Richard and wife, Debbie of Ste. Genevieve; by four daughters: Karen (Mrs. Marvin) Alexander of Herculaneum; Ann (Mrs. Ray) Wampler of Bonne Terre; Tina (Mrs. Ron) Young of DeSoto and Diana (Mrs. Robert) Windsor of Elgin Air Force Base, FL; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Cozean Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Cozean Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Bates officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Park Hills. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
